I can't answer your question about the wrecker and lift points, but another option is renting a U-Haul vehicle dolly and trailering the M998 back with the wrecker. I've seen a number of threads on here that point out a U-Haul vehicle dolly that is _just_ large enough.
No, sorry, I haven't noticed any such noises or hums. My speedometer cable is only 5 years old and ~1800 miles (the original one was broken when I bought my truck). I wouldn't think that the cable could make a noise loud enough to be heard over the rest of the truck, except for maybe when it breaks.
Are you referring to the rubber shell connectors, or Packard connectors?
Shipping isn't cheap, but I've found Erik's Military Surplus has them for the cheapest in packets of 10...
I have red's single piston air compressor from his seized multifuel (with around ~1500 miles on it) I am going to put on my truck and see if that changes anything. (My air compressor is also a single piston).
Last night I disassembled and cleaned both air compressor's air filter. Both had oil...
No.
Also, I've never heard of that before and don't understand how a lubricant will help hold something in place. The spring isn't suppose to move or spin at all. Can you please explain how greasing it is suppose to help?
It wouldn't have mattered in the previous install orientation because the...
Ouch!
Thanks for the reminder. Best of recovery wishes - hopefully you can get some gentle treatment from family and friends. :(
Those M809 series really need a hood lift, like the one sold to me from BBQROD last year. One of the best, and most practical of mods.
BBQROD's vids...
Due to the design of the 1:200 adapter, I wasn't able to keep the same orientation of the adapter on my transfer case
As can be seen below, if left this way you would be unable to access the grease zerk. So I rerouted my speedometer cable over top of my transmission and down the passenger frame...
A little follow up:
So after a little more than 1 year and (guessing) ~800 miles in my deuce, I pulled out the stock speedometer adapter to put in a 1:200 ratio adapter.
Immediately it can be noticed that gear oil was fouling the grease in the speedometer adapter - this means that the...
Maybe this will help for this upcoming snow year....
If you could provide exact measurements, perhaps, just perhaps, this place could make you spacer plates for the 5-ton to move the tires out from the drum, say 1/2".

I am sorry, but over 20 years is not true. The surplus Michelins I have are no older than the surplus Goodyears that I have. Both have date codes in the 2000-2001 range (granted some of my Goodyears are newer with 2004-2007 date codes). It still does make for an older tire, and they should be...
I have no experience with arranging shipping after an auction. I just wanted to pipe up and say though that my experience has been (at least in Utah) that the Michelin 11.00R20 XL's seem to be harder to find (even Boyce Equipment didn't have any when I called last year) but they do have a great...
Definitely the top priority things.
But also:
New engine belts
All axle seals replaced
Front axle boots
put on replacement hood hold down latch
I'd still recommend rebuilding all brake wheel cylinders (rubber + honing)
Install peashooter new flexible brake lines (already have in hand)
All...
Here's a poorly lit, and poorly aimed picture of my current air compressor. It sure appears a lot more oily than I've ever noticed before (in better light). It looks like oil is leaking around the air intake and even out through the air intake, and dripping down all over the base of the air...
I suggest taking pictures (or even video) for the folks here. It'll help determine if something is wrong. Even with economic cut backs, pictures are still worth many words ;)
