Differences between 1998 and 2008 MTVs?

SCOTTMANDU has most of the big differences. I don't know which years some of these changes came into effect, but here are some more: 1) Different bumper 2) Grab handles on the outside of the cab (this is a very nice addition/upgrade) 3) Roof insulation inside the cab 4) ABS 5) Different...

LOUISIANA PROPOSED NEW LAW : HB 549 Provides for Military Surplus Motor Vehicles

You probably already thought of this, but I would suggest sending her a formal thank you note. You may also want to let her know that you will remember her support when the next election rolls around!

max tilt/slope/roll angles when driving for say M1079

There is a video on YOUTUBE that shows the operation of an FMTV...I believe they show an M1079...on a side slope. They tell you the max grade and how to drive on such a slope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irUwErlR5OU

Possible solution for dreaded engine stall when brakes are locked up.

Especially the ones that came out early. I have had M939 series trucks since 2001 when it was almost unheard of to own one. My first truck (an M929) did NOT have ABS.

45th Annual East Coast Military Vehicle Rally Militaria Flea Market 10-12 May 2018

I will be there, but I am unsure which days at this point due to work and family obligations.

    Source for 6TL Battery

Yes. If you look at the battery tray, it is shaped to accommodate 6TLs or Group 31s (one way, the battery tray is wide, and the other narrow).

    Source for 6TL Battery

I was going to say the same thing...Group 31s in a CUCV work well...and they will be cheaper. I bought mine at Tractor Supply a while back.

    New owner!

Beautiful truck. I think the M813s are more rare than the M813A1s (with drop side bed), right?

    M49a2c

Personally, I vote for you to keep it original...or at least how it came to you...but, it is yours to do as you wish! I think the truck could be rare given that the bed looks like it was originally built like that to accommodate the 1100 singles. It looks to me like the cargo beds on the older...

    M923a1 assistance

I want to second the suggestion to get Wes to haul your truck. He recently hauled a truck for me, and I was very happy. He is a great guy to deal with. He will always be my first call on vehicle recoveries moving forward. Recoveries are exciting, but not always in a good way. Better to get...

Louisiana - State Flagging Existing Titles, and Registering New Vehicles as Off-Road

I think he may be referring to the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA)...national organization representing military vehicle owners and enthusiasts.

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

That law (or at least the blurb posted) only seems to cover HMMWVs, aside from the last part about "currently registered." What about M939, FMTV, or other vehicles that are purchased in the future?

Picked up a M416. What to do first?

I know those trailers well...I have one sitting in my garage.

Picked up a M416. What to do first?

What did you pay? That is important when deciding what to do. If you got it cheap enough, then anything is possible. If you paid close to retail, then, fix it as best as you can and enjoy it. That's why I am asking.

    Humvees under 15,000

Understand that many of them came out with off-road only titles. Then, many of those titles were washed in title friendly states. That may or may not be a problem in your state now or in the future. Personally, I can't understand why the HMMWVs were targeted for off-road use only designation...

Well, I done did it. Won a m1078. Need to get it home... In Wahington - any suggesti

Carefully check that the relays are in the right spots. I got an M1078 recently where relays were moved around (24V relays in 12V spots and vice versa). I suspect that someone tried to sabotage my truck since it was listed as "would not start" and yet it was a recently rebuilt truck. I find...

Louisiana - State Flagging Existing Titles, and Registering New Vehicles as Off-Road

I agree with you on everything you said. I, too, have wanted one, but resisted the urge because of the off-road use only thing. I also agree that there should be a path to being able to title the HMMWVs for on-road use. I actually don't see why they wouldn't be able to tag them legally. The...

Louisiana - State Flagging Existing Titles, and Registering New Vehicles as Off-Road

Regarding the federal government's decision to sell HMMWVs, many (most) of those same trucks were sold with off-road use only stipulations.

    M1078 model year changes

The door hinges were changed on the A1s, but I don't recall what year. The A1s have additional grab handles on the outside of the cab, which are nice. The A1s (at least my 2007...not sure what year they started it) have different bumpers.

Well, I done did it. Won a m1078. Need to get it home... In Wahington - any suggesti

Get it home and take stock of what you've got. Even if you need a transmission, it is not the end of the world with what you have in the truck! Good luck!
