Thanks Suprman. I'm not sure about anything that's wrong with the crane. I will be focusing on reliable running condition first then I'll get back to you on the pto shaft items, but don't "hold onto" anything for me.
Here's some up on the crane deck.
I think it might need a new operator's seat and back rest.
I found an antenna tie down (not pictured) just lying in the foot well of the crane operator's bucket. Obviously part of the removed (at time of DRMO I'm sure) radio equipment. As seen in the...
Thanks Gimpy, I will do that.
Well, it is possible to get it to run, it was actually driven off the delivery trailer to where it sits now. But I wasn't able to get it started the next day. I'm obviously very new to it, but I'm pretty sure that fuel isn't supposed to gush from the primer pump...
I'm calling it officially winter now, and I'm going to procrastinate most of the work to be done to the truck until February/March if winter abates enough by then. This is nothing of a snow like some of you've already gotten, but I prefer not to work on my hobbies in the ice and wet. ;)
I threw...
More detail shots.
Little things, going to need a latch for the driver's side below-cab tool box. The good news is that in the box I found the 2 original in-series battery cables with terminals (not pictured) for a 4-battery setup.
Passenger's Side Rear Axle:
Passenger's Side Center Axle:
I was charging up each battery individually, but instead of 4 this truck only has two.
Slight bend to passenger side front bumper, but that's pretty small.
The cable here has been expertly wound for sure.
She has Michelin XL 11.00R20's all the way around, and even a matching spare. Sweet tires with plenty of tread left. But remember the part that I said neglect and mistreatment? The tires were not exempt. They're all very cracked. I don't know about you, but I call all the exterior ones un-road...
Hello 5-Ton Forum!
As the saying goes "Long time reader, first time poster" - or something of that flavor. I have a 1972 AM General M35A2 and I just picked up a 1972 AM General M816 Wrecker. In my opinion, think of a truck where the previous owner never did their PMCS (Preventative Maintenance...
For me, my mods are based upon what I want to do with the truck. At first it was only summer parades, and it was hot. so I installed some interior fans.
I worried a bit about some one curious opening my doors and accidentally disengaging the parking brake or turning on accessory power and...
I chanced it and got the 600W version:

But it did NOT fit as I had far too much cast iron in the way that a simple filing wouldn't fix... and dumb me destroyed the Kat's frost...
I'm no "native born" Utah resident, but I've not heard it said "oo-tah". I hear the 'U' pronounced quite well (Like "you-tah"). Now the 't' in "mountain" is usually absent... :P
I realize this was months ago, but just to shout out as a MV owner in Utah:
I have a standing invite in my town's 4th of July parade in Davis County.
Plans for next Saturday (November 08th, 2014) to be with the Utah Military Vehicle Club at the Ogden, UT Veteran's Day parade (I believe the...
Hey hey! Welcome from another Utah resident!
Also, if interested, you may like to meet with local enthusiasts via the Utah Military Vehicle Club (see signature).
Any intent on getting into the hobby yourself? If so, what kind of craft, vehicle, miniatures, replicas, or pseudo military-esq do...
You bet, I hope you like yours! What I have noticed so far is how I need to stop myself from unconsciously trying to use them (and the front blinker light shroud too for that matter) as a support/steady for myself when climbing my short step ladder to access the engine compartment. :P
Forgot to add this one.
This attachment shows you what a bad ground looks like. There is no visible "lollipop" directional light blink, and a very dim front blinker. Also notice the blackout lights blinking too.
So no, the batteries aren't about dead, and the lollipop light DOES work, just a...
And here is a full front view of both lights, and a short, poor video of them in action. What, you don't take videos of lights blinking? Yeah, Christmas is a crazy time for people like me. rofl
Not a new thing for most, but I'm sure some have not seen, or would like to see, the "lollipop" lights on a deuce. These mount to the same two bolts that the front blinker lights mount to, but face reward instead. Due to some recent trips on crowded highways, and traffic moving much faster...
