Welcome! There are plenty of members from Canada and I am happy that a few have already responded so far. The annual east coast rally is located in Aberdeen, MD, but the show in PA (Gilbert) is near as good and isn't on asphalt!
That is really cool. What I really want to find is one of the landing leg supports that the same company makes for the M105A3! That wimpy landing leg scares me when my son is around it. Anyone know where I can find one without paying retail to the company?
I just took one of my M939 series trucks to Allison and I specified DEXIII because I don't want to pay for the synthetic, which I am sure is better, but is not needed for my use. I drive my trucks quite a bit, but I don't work them. They get used gently, which I would bet is the same for most...
The problem with M939 series trucks is parts availability. I am not saying that parts are unavailable, but the surplus guys generally don't have stocks of parts like they do for the M44, M39 and M809 series trucks. This could change., As they get rid of the trucks, they inevitably will get...
The different spring colors correspond to how hard or soft the transmission will shift. I had a truck that was downshifting hard from 2nd to 1st and it was not normal, so they swapped out the spring with another and it corrected the problem.
I think what PATRACY is saying is that his qualifications lay in his experience administering sites such as this, combined with his knowledge of the hobby, and not so much about his post count. Makes sense to me. Welcome and congrats.
You should not have to pull a transmission to set the shift points, unless I missed something in this thread. They should be able to adjust the shift points with the transmission in the truck.
I think it is a mathematical type thing. Talk to the Allison techs, but I believe I was told that they can only get like 80% of the fluid out when they drain it. So, if that is correct (adjust the percentage if my quote is wrong), after you change it, 80% is DexIII and 20% is still 10W. So...
You could probably fix it...I am assuming...although I don't know what could be wrong. If you need to replace it, check with CUCVFAN in MD. He had some NOS crank up landing legs the last time It talked with him.
Jeff, I can't rememer what the Allison dealer near me charged to service the transmission (fluid flush and filter) and check the shift points, but I recall thinking that it was not as much as I thought it would be. If you want to truly rid your truck of the 10W oil, you will have to change the...
It IS and it IS NOT normal. I say it IS normal because I have had other M939 series trucks that shifted like this. I say it IS NOT normal because they are not supposed to shift like that. You should take it to an Allison dealer to have them check the shift points. You could also have a bad...
These responses are great, especially WRECKERMAN's. Another thing to consider is the cost of the M149A2. They generally bring really good money. I'm talking over a grand if they are as clean as the one in the pic. I paid $1100 for mine and I've seen them go as high as $2K at auction. I bet...
In the end, no matter what, you are only left with an educated guess. The CUCVs are 25 years or so old and could have a lot of mileage on them...or they could have sat unused. Mileage does not concern me. I am only concerned with overall running and physical condition and tend to ignore the...
I have frequently seen the tow bar simply laid out on the back deck on the side by the boom operator's controls. I am not sure if this is the "standard" storage location or not, but I've seen the tow bar there on several trucks.
It is too bad that you need to come all the way to Meade. About a year or so ago, over 200 M101A2s came out of Ft. Drum and the prices were staying low. I wanted to grab two, but I had just bought my M101A3. Maybe, more will come up there. No guarantee of that, though. If you see the right...
