    how to remove rear drum?

I'd love to see pics of that as well. I thought I got lucky when I got a pallet jack to remove the dual's and hub as a unit. If I can replace the wheel cylinder without having to take the wheels off the truck, it should be about a 15 minute job a corner. I think he did what most of us do, he...

DSD, If you spent any time in a National Guard unit, you'd understand why I'm so interested in your knowledge. Sure, I put a new starter on my M1089 this past weekend but "new" stuff is as rare as a hen's tooth when it comes to maintenance. I rebuilt the old one to put back in the supply...

DSD, He doesn't need to visit the BAE Gift Shop any longer. These are manufactured and recapitalized by Oshkosh now. BAE was understandably upset when this happened and Stewart Stevenson has long been out of the picture on this family of trucks. I do appreciate the tip about the ground...

These trucks are notorious for having bad starters. I just replaced the one on my M1089 this past weekend. Here's how to check. With the cab tilted forward, on the driver's side frame rail, you'll see the remote relay that you mentioned. The top small wire is a ground, the bottom small wire...

I've spent some time with FMTV's and would like to point out that it has an "open" driveline when the CTIS is engaged to the highway setting. If you removed the front driveshaft and put it in gear, only the front output would spin. Now, try the same test but set the CTIS in X-CTY and you'll...

Old girl put back on active duty

That does happen sometimes in the Reserve's or Guard. We got sequestered long before anyone else. I've driven my truck to tow a trailer to Ft. Stewart 180 miles away. They did pay for the fuel, they obligated themselves for maintenance and repairs if needed and they didn't let anyone else...

Hotshot Transportation Co. - looking for loads

I'll vouch that he's good to go. He worked with my wife to get ChevyC60's truck out of my front yard. I chained it to my M1028, she towed him to line up with the trailer, he unhooked the combo, let Lee take the cucv to safety. Then he hooked up his winch, taught Lee how to use it and steered...

20 July SS'er Get Together at the Veterans State Park in Cordele GA.

3D, at this point, reserve me a nice chair!!! I'm not sure if I can skip drill and at this point, it's back on for July. I'm still going to come see everybody and Thank You for taking this event over. Atomic better come in and Thank You as well!!!

    how to remove rear drum?

I agree with RTFM but I'll be a little nicer. With an 11/16" wrench in hand, you'll notice two bolt heads on either side of the line going into the wheel cylinder. Guess what they do? Ahh, I could tell you but that would go against the Mods' wishes so I'll also go back to the read the TM rant...

Veteran's State Park details, meet and greet and swap

Very happy to see that 3D is stepping up and taking over this event. I may or may not be able to camp with ya'll but I definitely want maximum participation. Please keep all new news in this thread and I'll echo what 3D has earlier, If a Mod can combine the two threads related to this event...

    1100x20 G177s on a Deuce...

If your Deuce is twitchy after switching to radials, please take the time to search for Gringletaube's answer in a thread started by MDMorgan when they put the 395's on a Deuce. If I were a "Search Genius" I would link it in my reply. Long and short of it, undo U-bolt's on 1 side of axle...

20 July SS'er Get Together at the Veterans State Park in Cordele GA.

I appreciate it Joe Cool, Most of the older folks have been shuffled out in the past few years with the National Guards "SRP every 6 months to see if anything is medically wrong with you" policy. I've even had to get glasses to keep trucking. Before I could just refuse them but the standard...

20 July SS'er Get Together at the Veterans State Park in Cordele GA.

I talked to my 1LT yesterday. I may be able to "split out" of drill so long as I go to work at the OMS shop for a few days servicing FMTV's and some older M939 series trucks. I'd like to keep the dates the same and I think all will work out just fine. If it doesn't, I will let all know, I'm...

20 July SS'er Get Together at the Veterans State Park in Cordele GA.

JoeCool, It's scheduled for the weekend of the 20th. 3DAngus did some awesome research and I think it will be a great little get together. I'll only be able to spend a short amount of time with ya'll. On the previous "Drill Schedule", we didn't have "Drill" in July but the new one came out...

Derrick, I drive an 1089 for the National Guard. It's better than the M936 (I've used A-0's, A1's and A2's) power wise but it pales in comparison to the M984. That Detroit would rather break the pins than slow down. Plus side, it's slightly quieter and runs about the same acceleration wise...

    2009 Lmtv M1078A1 Charging System

I'd question how good your replacement batteries are or if there is an excessive load placed on them. In the National Guard, we run into a lot of dead battery issues due to trucks sitting. I've taken a good truck, for this example a truck with good batteries and charging system, and slaved off...

    Axle noise? video

Literally every Deuce I have driven makes these exact same noise's to include my own. I've always wondered what was the culprit.

Will a lds465-1a interchange with a ldt465-1c and what is the differance?

I'm with the majority of this post. The LDS is a nice motor. I'm still with alot of people though, what makes the LDS superior to a LDT with a turned up pump. We've beat this to death in the Deuce Modification and Hotrodding section and I'm still without a concrete answer. I swapped a "C"...

    Strange Axle Leak

Yes I have seen that happen. A buddy of mine got an RRAD truck straight from rebuild that spent some time sitting in a National Guard unit. Well, long an short, the outer bolts that hold the axle shaft to the hub were finger tight. He tightened them down to 80 foot lbs. and problem solved.
