I agree with Jay on the Gillespie black. I almost always go with CARC. However, for touch ups, I use Krylon ultra flat black. It is almost a 100% match with fresh black CARC. I don't know if you can buy it by the gallon.

Your shifting problem could be related to the shift modulator. I don't know that this is the problem for certain, but I had a truck once that would not shift out of second gear and it was the shift modulator. Once that was replaced and the shift points were set, the transmission shifted perfectly.

For what it's worth, they are terrible in tight spaces. The LWB makes them tough to maneuver. Also, watch out for the bed overhang as it really swings out when you make tight turns.

Only the A2s have the 6CTA 8.3 Cummins motors. Ted is right...all M939 series have Allison transmissions and a Cummins motor (the A0 and A1 had the NHC250, while the A2 had the 6CTA). All have air brakes. Only the A1 and A2 have super single tires...although you can convert an A0 to A1 status...

Welcome to the site. I agree...soft tops are my preferred choice...unless we're talking about dumps. For some reason, I always think that a dump looks better with a hard top...probably because of the cab protector.
