The GM 6.2 and 6.5,doesn’t have coolant in the intake manifold. Sounds like what happened is a fastener of some type fell into the intake port while he was running it open and got ingested and busted the head and piston.
Not really sure why I would want to turn a nimble warrior into a clutzy heavy slug that can be defeated with a coke bottle some gas and a rag. But that’s just me.
Looks like only the brake backing plates were swapped, not the entire axle. The main data plate says M246, manufactured by International. I do believe that truck is a 1950's manufactured truck that originally was gas.
If you are 100% certain you have good bubble free clean plentiful fuel flow to the ip and unrestricted return lines, and
If you are 100% certain you have uninterrupted 24 volts to the ip,
And your ip is over 10 years old,
it's time for an overhaul.
Sure. You said: " I already checked gas tank, fuel lines from tank to pump to filter (put in a new filter) and return lines. All are good with clean gas. "
Knowing this, the symptoms you describe (stalling, no power, sometimes idles bad) are those of a failing injection pump.
The injection pump solenoid has to get 24 volts for the engine to stay running. The circuit powering this solenoid is completely unrelated to any circuits related to the 4L80E.
For sure 1964. For sure M543A2. Maybe USA number of 5D6804 (interpolated) Data snip from Carnac's Historical Thread.
EDIT: I didn't look closely enough at the database earlier.
I solder pigtails onto the prongs and then insulate with a blob of silicone. Also, there is no way to incorrectly wire up a 24 volt seal beam to make it burn out.
Hmm my HMMWV has that pump and it makes no noise. Lots of times these HMMWV engines were pulled from trucks in a very careless manner. Pump may have ingested big dirt.
