I got a little more info on my truck yesterday. It arrived back in Albany packed into a 20 foot ISO Connex. I was talking to another guy on base today and he thought it was going to be his truck. He told me about when it showed up and he just knew he had a good farm vehicle but was outbid at...
I'm game to drive it just as long as it's hauled the first 160 miles or so there and I can get a little familiarization time in it. Then that leaves the task of getting The Proud there as well as my NOS USMC M1028. Oh well, we've got a few months to plan!!!! Do we have a second Landoll to...
Some folk's think they're getting low. They just came and took pics and description's on the older trucks my local National Guard unit has so I'm starting to think it's true.
Did you get it? I saw that it closed at $2610 which is a little higher than I predicted. Let me know if you need some help or talk you through recovering it.
I prefer Hawker 6TAGM's myself but they can be pricey. The oldest I have is an 03' though and will still accept a full charge. I can't get 4 years out of a civi battery but I've got almost 8 year old AGM's that are good to go.
The number's on the side are the USMC registration number. Rather than put unit markings on the truck, the Marine Corps simply stencil's the reg. number on the truck. They don't receive unit marking's for the most part but occasionally you'll see one that's been personalized with some artwork.
+1 on check the torque. You CANNOT rely on feel for torque in this area. I'm not backing Jatonka up in this area as the adapters I have on my truck came from Westfolk. Regardless of that, I installed them by feel and guess what? They leaked. I took the filter's off, torqued with a known...
That's not a Stryker. It's a LAV Logistics vehicle that the Marine Corps uses. Very similar but the very different at the same time. Notice the propellers on the back and on the front it has an extend-able bow plane. Floating Light Armor? Who needs that? Oh yeah, the Marines are crazy as...
I'll agree with Westech on the added ballast in the bed. I've done (2) 800 series 5 ton recoveries in the same week and they can be interesting to tow. You will be going very slow and you'll learn to appreciate the sychronized transfer case quite a bit on restarts. Do not attempt without the...
A Deuce is as tight of a tight squeeze that most would like to handle, that M814 won't make it past the campground but you're more than welcome to hang out there. I bought a CUCV to compensate.
Started my well maintained Deuce in +17 degree weather tonight with no intake heater assist on the first bump of the starter button. The CUCV stalled out even equipped with good glowplugs. It stayed on the second go around. Is there any harm with running these trucks about an hour a week at...
I can go down and get it about 60 miles closer. I'll also give it a good once over and make sure it's ready for a road trip!!! It would not by far be my first tow job and I'll bet I'd get lucky and let your truck tow mine back. Also, Mark GL is a programmed contact in my phone, he's a nice...
I've learned the pioneer tools are behind the seat because my truck once had a firefighting apparatus in the bed and there was nowhere else to store the tools. Mine is one of the rare M1028FF's albeit missing the fire apparatus currently.
Steven,
A pallet jack is a great idea, the military used something similar and then you'd only have to pull the axle shaft, 3" nuts and remove the brake drum and hub assembled to the tires. Those tires are heavy!!! I've never had an inner bearing stick but the inner seal is both hard...

Laughing aside, this is my truck. I'd expect a pretty nice oh-9???? in trade. lol but not really. I'd expect good paint, no or not much rust etc, and not too many miles as my truck has hardly no miles and no rust anywhere.
The shifts are hard on my truck as well and at a little higher rpm's than it sounds like it should. I don't have a tach to verify but it sounds like it waits till about 2,000 even when driving lightly which at first sounds like an odd rpm to shift at but it's right near the torque peak for this...
I'd give my M1028 up if the "right" M1009 in very nice shape showed up. I doubt I'd need the strength of the Dana 60 as I don't hit the trails that hard. I mostly daily drive. It'd be a hard decision for me though since my truck just past 2400 original miles and has been hanging out in a cave...
