    It's likely blow-by. Compression is about 100psi lower than it is supposed to be, and it almost does not start. About 20 seconds of cranking before it lights off on a warm day. Even the pistons showed it by having carbon tracks past the top ring.

    Help me add a manual fan override switch to my 5ton

    It should be ok. The outlet side of the shutter-stat initially has full pressure on it when the shutter-stat closes anyway, which then bleeds off through the small bleed port. Let it rip, it should work perfectly. You're not going to make history by not doing anything. :)
