This is the trailer that @simp5782 mentioned.
AND it is fairly close to you too...

Everybody has an opinion, but I would you think that you will be happier if you get that connector fixed. Butt connectors work, but a little testing with a meter before you hack up your wiring.
.
Agree with @NDT .
Draining and looking at the gear oil would be good.
If it really was "slippage", the higher gears would (should?) might show clutch slippage.
Don't really think you need to try to wash out the internals on the gearboxes... IMO

Guessing you already own a tractor with a bush-hog attached?
Finding a trailer shouldn't be too bad. There are a couple in the "Classifieds" section here.
Need to figure out how long a trailer you might need.

After you get that connector as clean as you can - note that corrosion that @kloppk mentioned - use a little Anti-Oxidation Paste to ward off future corrosion. While you are cleaning, use some electrical contact cleaner too.

Do you see - Or can you find any sort of metal plate on it with more information?
If you can find some sort of tag chances are we can help you find some info.

We have a member here going through the inspection process in Germany. That appears to be a "Royal Pain" to say the least. Their standards wouldn't allow a motor swap - so be sure to read up on the inspection process where you are!
I think I would be pretty irritated if I stuck in a new...

Thanks for finding the HMMWV Fuel Tank Access information @mccullek !
I downloaded the images - so that in the future - if they disappear, we have local copies of the information.

Welcome to the Outfit!
Looks good. Nice sheetmetal for sure.
Now all you need is a powerplant...
You might want to go download the TM's (Technical Manuals) for your new-to-you truck.

Me personally, about a quarter or a half turn back. You need room for expansion as the bearings heat up. Back it off, then spin the drum. It should rotate freely but if you grab the left and right of the drum and try to wiggle the drum left and right. There should be no "slop".
What about this . . .
Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 a.m.
While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG).
He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE)...

Time spent making sure that the cover isn't "dimpled" where the fasteners go through is important. You could use a straight edge, but it should be obvious if the last work under the covers had a gasket. Rubber gaskets cause that problem more than Cork.
Either way, a flat sealing surface will...

There is a CTIS troubleshooting thread (link below). There is a DANA / Spicer troubleshooting guide here in the TM section too. Another idea is to replace the controller that you bought with a more "manual" version of that part...
