    importing armor from outside US

Mike, you'd be better off buying something like this from Jeff. First, he has gone through the trouble of getting it here. Second, parts availability has got to better on the British stuff. Third, Jeff is right down I66 from you.

I forgot about that thread. I like Jeff's idea better...

5 ton soft top canvas fastners.

Contact any surplus dealer like John Winslow (252-883-2509). They will have residue trucks from which they can grab part of the soft top assembly. I doubt the will take apart a good soft top assembly, but they are bound to have parts of one. This is exactly what I did.

6TLs versus big box mart replacements

I know a lot of guys don't like the 6TLs, but I am very satisfied with their performance and life span. I have never had a 6TL last fewer than three years and even those batteries were seconds (past their shelf life...i.e, expired) and were in a truck that I did not start often (the baby was...

6TLs versus big box mart replacements

No matter what the cost, it still adds up. I just got eight batteries for $720 for the two M814s. This order was about a month after I got six from him for $540 (four for the HEMTT and two for an M35A2). You don't need 6TLs, though. I've used Type 31s and car batteries with no problems. I...

6TLs versus big box mart replacements

I get Interstate 6TLs for $90 apiece...brand new. I know a guy who owns a local garage and he sells them to me for his cost. Otherwise, I'd be spending $160 or so per battery. For $90 each brand new, I stick with the 6TLs.

    Oil Type Opinion

I tend to use 15W40 Rotella, too, but I've also used Valvoline and Mobil Delvac. My suggestion...use whatever name brand oil you can find on sale. I used to buy Valvoline in 5 gallon pails because it was the cheapest. I've been using Rotella because CostCo carries it now. Before that, they...

    Rant : Markings on equipment

I agree with everyone, but it seems the military does this, too, for whatever reasons. I saw some trucks on a train...freshly painted...with markings on them. I also saw a brand new Bradley with markings written on it with that white chalk. I don't think the DRMO will stop this (I don't think...

    Cargo cover and paint damage?

There is nothing you can do about this. This is why I often don't put cargo covers on my trucks and, if I do, they stay on. I have found that the paint wears better if it has been on the truck a while (i.e., it is not fresh). If you don't want it scuffed, take the cover off.

    M54 or M813 - What should I do?

I used to think you could tell the early trucks from the later M809 series trucks by the grill. You SHOULD be able to, but many have had their grills replaced/updated with the later grills.

    M54 or M813 - What should I do?

Don: Make sure you check the tranny for water. I can almost guarantee there is water in the transmission if it has been sitting without a cab top for a while. Water won't hurt anything if it has only been in there for a bit...but I would not want to leave it there for years. I just drained a...

    M54 or M813 - What should I do?

For what its worth, the tubular grill on the M809 series of trucks is the early grill.

    FNG Reporting!

RE: Re: RE: FNG Reporting! HAMMER: I suggest you try to get a deuce while the gettins' good. They will not be in the system forever. While no one really knows when the flow will stop, I've heard grumblings about all of the M35s and it variants being out of the system a year from now. As...

    camo paint question

Your truck is currently painted 3 color camo. The colors are: 383 Green, 383 Black and 383 Brown. Mark Dodd, at RAPCO in TX, sells the Gillespie CARC-like paint in gallons and in spray cans. There is also a supplier that sells actual CARC in spray cans called MISPRAY, but the paint is fairly...
