Finally got the truck...with a lot of headaches...

With regard to the radiator, it might not have been the GL guys. The DRMO guys have been doing this stuff for years. I once saw an M52A2 at Lakehurst, NJ that had been shoved sideways about 20 feet by a forklift. I know it was shoved by the crushed fuel tank and the skid marks the tires made...

    NEW ENGLAND RALLY???

What about upstate NY...about 20 miles from Cooperstown? My family has a place there on about 100 acres. There is a huge field that is mostly cleared for camping, vending, etc (the field was completly cleared about 15 years ago for farming and has been mowed, but not for a few years). There...

odd turn signal guards '70 Kaiser Jeep M35A2

That is BS that all the newer trucks have these light guards on them. If that was so most of the trucks that we have would have those light guards on them. That is just not true. Provide proof...

odd turn signal guards '70 Kaiser Jeep M35A2

They are actually a nicer design because you can step on them but, I agree, they are not seen as readily. I don't have any info on their use. Just curious why MADDAWG thinks they were used with armor. Where did that come from?

    super singles on the deuce

You get about 7 mph more when the speedo says50 mph. I had one deuce that had less torque because of the larger tires, but I have one now where you call tell any difference. Maybe, this one runs better...I don't know.

    Recovery trip in progress

    ..."level" should be "lever."

    Recovery trip in progress

I will also add that the fuel tank selector lever can be a bit finnicky. Make sure you know the truck before you start switching the level back and forth. You might start sucking air and then you are done until you replace the level. This is common if a truck has been sitting for a long...

    St. John's Parish Sheriff's Office 5 ton.

Too bad they ruined it with the paint. It looks to have been a perfectly straight truck.

M1008/1028 optimal tire sizes to offset 4.56 gearing

Adam, you've probably already thought of this, but if not, here goes...why not put an overdrive kit on the truck? John Winslow has one on an M1028 and, man, does it make a difference. We were cruising along at 75-80 mph at the same RPM that would normally get you about 50 mph. The kit is not...

    My first 5 ton

Beautiful truck. Good luck! I concur with Westech...Joe Czarnik is the guy for parts in your area. He is a heck of a nice guy, too!

NJ military trail ride in the pines

Beautiful Unimog, Mike! I really want a 1300! I just haven't gotten up the courage (and the funds) to spend what it takes to get one. I've heard they go for $25K and up.

Armor near Harrisburg-there's Tigers in them hills

For anyone interested, just search on GOOGLE VIDEO or YOUTUBE on "Panther" or "Tiger tank" or "King Tiger tank." There are videos of real tanks that have been restored. I would hate to even think about what those types of vehicles are worth. Over a million bucks I'd guess...

Duo-Deuce Pick-up from GL -very long.

Jake: I'd like to see some more pics of the camo M35A2. That is sweet looking truck! Congrats!

    factory hardtop or not

Those covers look exactly like the covers used on the M548 tracks.

    electric winch on deuce

Agreed, Bjorn...that is the beauty of the remote control for the HMMWV winch...it allows you to stand about 10 feet further to the side. I am not sure if this takes you out of harms way if the wire rope snaps, but it is better than standing directly next to the winch.

    Atleast they warn you.........

Mike, I was thinking the same thing. However, if that is the case, why don't all of the truck listings have this warning? I've seen some deuces with the warning and some without...even at the same site.

    Taxes on Gov liquidation?????

That is the way it is set up. Unfortunately, I have found that MD does not care if taxes were paid previously as they insist on collecting taxes when they title the vehicle...irrespective of whether or not taxes may have been incorrectly paid previously.

    M1010 questions????

NCCUCV, I am not sure what advice I can give. It sounds like you are not going to keep your truck stock. If that is true, then owning an M1010 that was converted into a pickup would be no big deal. At that point, the only two factors that would concern me would be running condition and price...

    M1010 questions????

I wonder where you saw a CUCV pickup bringing $1000 that was worth anything. I follow GL almost religiously and I have not seen any trucks worth a damn coming out for $1K. I say go for the truck you found...unless you want the "excitement" of the unknown. There is something to be said for the...

    electric winch on deuce

If anyone is interested, I have a brand new 24V electric HMMWV winch with remote control for sale...$800. I have more in it. I believe the winch is rated at 9,000 pounds. The remote control feature is very nice as it lets you stand some what out of harms way.
