Expect to pay $45K and up. A decent looking wrecker (that still needed a bunch of stuff) brought $31K on GL recently. That's $31,000 for a truck that you can't even test drive or hear run (the motors are as scarce as hen's teeth...don't let the fact that the same motor was used in commercial...
Sermis,
You need to give us more information before we can give you any worthwhile advice. Does the truck have any rust (rot)? Is it an M939 or M809 series truck (an automatic transmission is a dead give away)? What is the mileage? Tire condition (the super singles are not cheap)? What is...
If you really wanted to do it the right way...and money was not an object!...buy a heavy tag-along trailer that is rated for 20 tons. Many of these have air brakes.
Good luck!

If you want a diesel-powered 10 ton cargo, just find a cargo bed from a 10 ton gasser and mount it on an M123A1. Unlike the deuces and 5 tons, both the cargo and the tractor have the same wheelbase. Now...the tough part...finding the correct bed!

...oh yeah...if you are looking for a cargo cover, bows and fiberglass troop seats for the truck, let me know. I've got an NOS set of troop seats and bows, as well as recent 3-color vinyl cargo cover.

First, congrats on the truck. I love the dumps and I've had an M817 w/w. Now, on to the motor...I've been told by someone that knows much more than I do (John Winslow) that he's had several M809 series trucks with stuck motors...each had been sitting for a while. He was told by a Cummins...
I'll be honest...the 10 tons are MUCH, MUCH more fun to look at and talk about than to drive. They are beasts...non-sychro transmissions, heavy, overwidth (114" wide) and very slow (top speed on the cargo was 42 mph, but I'm not sure I ever did that). Don't get me wrong. They are cool trucks...
I have a set of brand new set of fiberglass troop seats, aluminum bows and a new 3-color camo vinyl top for the dump. I had this installed on my M929A1 before I sold the truck and it has been sitting in my garage ever since. I only had the troop seats/bows/cargo cover on the truck for 6 months...
Thanks to Chris Stansbury, I am now able to get on the list again. To clarify, I had two HEMTTs...one is a really nice M977 cargo and the other started as a basket case...an M978 fueler. Thanks to some really nice work by Tommy Craig in FL, the M978 was coming along nicely when I was...
I am not going to bid against you, but I think you are fooling yourself if you think that people who read this list won't bid against you. Remember...as others have pointed out previously...there are many people who are not on this list that read it. My suggestion...if you want a particular...
Those straps are used to secure the back portion of the cab top in the up position. Loosen the ropes at the back of the cab top and roll it up. You will notice that those straps secure to hooks on the top of the cab top.
I would not be shocked if the trucks runs as-is. I have a friend that bought a 5 ton multifuel tractor that had been sitting for 12 years. He put batteries in it and fired it up. Maybe, you can towbar it with your current deuce. If it is not far, it will save you money.
When I first saw that M925A2, I was tempted. Then, I talked to a friend who inspected it. He told me it is RUSTY! Did you see the rust through on the front of the hood? Do you know how much salt exposure that takes? I have owned several M939 series trucks and I can tell you that this is NOT...
Mike,
I've done business with GMA. Their products are top-notch. They may say that the cover is for the dropside truck, but it works on both the standard cargo bed and the dropside bed. I would guess that the other company has good covers, as well, but I don't have any firsthand knowledge...
