    6.2L GM diesel info?help?

By the way...I said "several thousand miles." I meant several HUNDRED thousand miles. Several thousand miles wouldn't be too good, would it?!?!

    6.2L GM diesel info?help?

The 6.2L motor is a very good one. It is very durable. I have seen many trucks with several thousand miles on them 6.2s in them. The guys that say the motor is a dog are those that incorrectly compare it to today's diesels. Yes, it is a dog compared to a Duramax, the newer Cummins, or the...

Any tips for a 600 miles drive?

I'd suggest keeping your speed to 60 mph or less. The truck can cruise all day long at 65 mph, but, since you don't know the truck, it would be wise not to push it...especially on its maiden 600 mile voyage. Good luck. I bet you'll be fine. The M1009s are great highway vehicles.

How does the GL process work?

That's a pretty nice truck that Saturn is selling and at a fair price...especially considering what these trucks are bringing on GL on the east coast. The real benefit is that the potential buyer could presumably test drive it.

    Oshkosh 10x10 PLS

James, Nice truck! I really enjoyed the video, too.

    M812

I think $4000 is a fair deal. To be honest, I'd rather spend $6500 for one that I could drive around that is turn-key, but I would bet that you'll end up with a nice truck for less than that...even after you figure your time into the equation. The kicker is that the $6500 deal is off of the...

    M812

The other thing you have to consider is the bed. You can't get around that unless you want to modify the bed...or mount another bed. Assuming you leave the bed on it, I'd leave the 1400 duals on it. You'll definitely increase your floatation, which is important if the truck will be used in...

    900 series

Bjorn, The same goes for you. Kenny told me you were a great guy and I got to see it firsthand after meeting you. Your son, Adrian, was also very nice...the apple does not fall far from the tree. I do plan to drive my HEMTT to Aberdeen next year, and might even bring both the cargo and the...

    M812

The street legal limit is 102". The M812 truck, itself, is 114" wide, not including the mirrors. What M1075 said was correct...the truck is overwidth because the 1400 X 20 duals and the bed are 114" wide. If you removed the bed and mounted 1100 X 20s, you'd be legal. 1400 X 20s are HUGE...

How does the GL process work?

I can second what Kenny said about the double taxation thing. It might depend upon the state, but I'm not sure. I've purchased trucks in several states (HI, NJ, VA, SC) and they always charge tax. I am, then, taxed when I try to title the truck, which is no sure bet in MD...they do not accept...

I think, but am not sure, that the rear winch is rated at 20,000 pounds...same as the front winch. $4000 is reasonable, especially if the motor comes with it.

    M812

Mike, A while ago, I offered to coordinate a deal for M812s...all running and still in military service (not through GL or GSA). Unfortunately, no one replied and the deal passed. I could have had as many as 15 trucks for $6,500 each. The only drawback is that I had to purchase several...not...

    finished sheridan tank

I am not sure how this is done, but the museum may be able to claim one out of surplus inventory. I know that other museums have done so, but I am not sure how. I even thought of starting my own museum!

Wal-Mart Krylon Camo Paint (Finally Done)

Also try the Krylon ultra flat black. It's great for painting rims, stencils, or the black camo areas. It is a perfect match with black CARC. It is much more flat than the Gillespie black, which, in my experience, comes out a tad shiny. The rest of the Gillespie paints are good (383 green...

    finished sheridan tank

Very cool tank, oifvet! Are there any in civilian hands...non-museum? What about M113s? I've run across a few of the old gassers, and I heard there was a guy in Canada with an M113A1.

    5 ton tanker

I once saw a water tanker mounted on an M809 chassis, but I never saw the dataplate to check to see if it had its own M #. I have never seen a 5 fuel truck, except for cargo trucks with the fuel cells and reel assembly in the bed.

    400 miles in an M813

Desert Rat, My truck is an M813A1 with a Cummins NHC-250 engine. Bjorn, We hit some Memorial Day traffic. We also stopped for lunch and dinner. I had a guest with me in the truck and he wanted to stop to eat. I usually eat while I'm driving. The other issue was...we waited for a little...

    400 miles in an M813

This past Sunday, I drove the M813A1 down to John Winslow's place in Halifax, NC. He picked up two M105A2s for me from Ft. Bragg and I went down with my brother to retrieve them. John loaded one into the bed with his 10,000 pound military forklift and I towed the other behind the truck. Man...

    1200/20 tires

I have read and heard that the M819 used 1200 X 20s, while the other M809 series trucks (except for the bridge trucks) used 1100s. I have never seen any 1200 X 20s. Why would one wrecker (M816) utilize smaller tires than the other (M819)? Perhaps, you can consider using 1100 X 20s.
