Sounds like the problem is related to the interaxle differential inside the transfer case. Most of the time these 218's are not worth fixing. I would put a want ad up, lots of folks are upgrading to the 242 and have a 218 as a waste product.

If you are asking about the devices attached to the cab, those are CIPs or Combat Identification Panels, used to give vehicles a recognizable infrared pattern for IFF (identification friend foe) purposes.

You have just described what wildland firefighters do with these trucks every day. Not to say things don't get torn up though. You will not be able to drive these trucks like a Baja race truck, your body won't be able to take it.

That recess is for the slave receptacle. A slave cable can be plugged in there to jump start "slave off" other vehicles or that one if it has a low battery. The receptacle is part of a winterization kit, and was rarely installed. The collector community, however, (myself included) loves to...

Snowtrac's fingers must be numb. He is telling you that the WTEC controller has to be happy in order to not inhibit cranking. What year is your truck? 97 and before is WTEC 2, 98 and after is WTEC 3.
