If it were me, I would first evacuate the system using a vacuum pump, then charge with 300 psi nitrogen, and see if the system maintains pressure over a few days. If so, drain the nitrogen and evacuate again, and charge with R22. You will need a vacuum pump, a bottle of N2 with regulator...
When Stewart and Stevenson / BAE lost the FMTV contract to Oshkosh, it was a very unhappy period in Sealy Texas. Everything the S&S team had worked on for 20 years was gone. Everything they had either went for auction or in the dumpster.
There is, problem is, it was made of canvas, and hasn’t been made since the 80s, and my experience has been most canvas items that old are dry rotted. Suggest you get dimensions of what you need and reach out to one of the canvas outfits for a custom made item.

Be aware of the handling characteristics of the A1, yank the steering wheel at high speed and you will roll.
Does it have refrigerant in it? Usually these get drained prior to going to drmo. You might be able to jump out pressure switches to see if the compressor is good.
