It may just be because I have seen the 5-Ton for so many years that would be my choice - if the opportunity came along. These Stewart & Stevenson trucks just don't look the part . Like Ken mentioned, knowing where you want to take the truck and how authentic it has to be could make a big...

Jake2670 ,
If you have a 3116, you shouldn't feel left out in the cold or anything...
Less electronics = Less crap that breaks with a big price tag associated with it.
There is a thing called the "oil line of death" on the 3116. Easy fix. FIX IT, be happy and move on.
The 3126 is a good...

Wow JP, it looks like you have a nice rig there! If she will crank and roll, everything else if just "making it purty". Definitely snap up some pictures when you can. How far is it "to home"? It could be that an hour or so under the truck checking gear oil and inspecting for brake fluid or...

I think there are folks who would be happy to have Load Testing information. Especially a How To build a load bank. Load testing in the spring and fall - before the weather changes - and the generators are standing around with nothing much to do should give everybody a way to test.
While...

Well thanks.
I discovered those same bolts on the M-107x and M-108x frames. I couldn't find the name of the "Huckbolts" to save my life...
I wonder if you could use some Grade 8 or possibly Grade 12 bolts - and then use steel locking nuts.
You want to stay away from the "elastic stop"...
.
Another good possibility is ground. It would be a good investment of your time to check there behind the emergency brake peddle. There is a small ground block that seems to corrode over time. Pulling those ground wires, scratching the wires and connectors with a small wire brush and...

I would say a youngster trying to mud bog a Deuce. Got a little stuck, then rev's her up and dumped the clutch. Then while the was bouncing around they sheared off one axle and twisted the other.

We are having a bunch of utility pole construction around here - and I always get GooGooEyed looking at the pole trucks. All of them have synthetic on their boom winch. It appears to be one inch Sampson Rope but that is just a guess... The difference though in that is that they lift poles...

Well that is as good as you can ask for... At least there isn't any rust and that is a big plus. There are chemicals to help decompose the crud. I remember doing a lot of reading about it. Hopefully I can find a thread or some notes. Pressure washer will help knock some of it loose too...

I found another thread that just started. This guy mentioned Disc Brakes, so I grabbed a link to point you to it. Still questionable so far as DOT is concerned but definitely worth learning about.

You will get her...

Well thanks! That is good information. Helps me understand a little more too. The idea you have about the crew cab is
really cool. Guy up in Winston has one started and then it ran out of steam somewhere along the way. :-(
I appreciate the time you spent doing time for Uncle as well.

And somebody is betting their life on that wood screw.
Not to mention anybody else on the same road with them...
(and that isn't a one shot, to drive home on fix either!)
I do have to admit that I have "rigged" things just to get home, but after that the real parts have got to be used!
.
I don't know jack squat about how to do what you are planning - but we have another member here with a very recently acquired Deuce. He is fairly certain that he wants to come into the later half of the 20th century for braking. Disc Brakes in particular... Sounds like you got a heck of a...

Answering up... I see it.
I see an electric heater of some sort. You picked "thumbnail" when you uploaded the picture and the link to the full size picture works just fine.
