I love the surge brakes and use my M101A2's several times a week. Have to use one tomorrow actually.
For me, they are perfect in stock form.
Once you service the brakes and bearings, etc. they will be trouble free for quite a while.
I did buy the Dexter Free-Back brake assembly's w/parking...
Had same problem on rear light before I went to all Truck-Lite LEDs.
Switch was fine.
Bulbs were fine and replaced again anyway. No luck.
I could bang on light and it would start working. Then it would be fine for a while, then act up again.
Not fun.
There was a short in the light housing...
I would buy that truck as a parts truck.
Just all the small stuff like screws and bolts, etc that you can use will save you time and $$.
Hoods a good score. Looks like lots of rust on doors and fenders.
Hate to see a stepside get scrapped.
They didn't make a ton of them.
I lucked out and both my 5 tons are excellent trucks.
Had a friend of a friend wanting to buy one.
Made a really great, unsolicited, serious offer on my M925A2. (This was when they were still plentiful on GP).
Didn't need the money and wasn't trying to sell it.
I was considering it when I...
That is just stupidity at its finest. Pay good money for a truck, just to tear it up.
The supply of good, solid trucks has slowed to a trickle.
They won't last forever.
Even if the LMTV was flawless, it's still ugly as ever.
The M939 5 tons at least "look" like a real truck.
Both have pros and cons.
Both have their own maintenance issues.
It's personal preference.
Some guys like the LMTV only
Some like the M939 series only
Some like both, or even...
I knew that and had found remnants of one when I installed a new seat cover in my first CUCV.
It's always nice to know the history, especially its birth certificate.
Would have been nice if all the paperwork was left in the trucks when military was done with them.
A few guys lucked out and received some paperwork.
Majority did not.
Just looked
ACDelco has discontinued that part.
You can still get the lock ring and seal and misc parts, but not the unit itself.
I installed a new ACDelco in mine almost two years ago and still going strong.
Should have bought several.
