Thanks for the post. I'll never understand why these trailers are always so severely cannibalized, not like the parts can't be bought at any truck parts house.
Follow the -20 or the instruction sheet that comes with the bearing kit. This is quite complicated as you have found out. Not one of Dana's better designs. The -20 is here on the TM area; I have a scan of the instruction sheet if you need it.
At $700 a piece, even if they are absolute junk, you can part them out and get half your $ back across the scale. Windshields are available. Biggest concern is severe rust on the underside. But these have been in your arid climate, shouldn't be too bad. I would pull the trigger, but I'm also...
When the compressor unloads (throttles down), no air is released. The unloader valve closes at the compressor inlet. Check to see if the linkage is closing this completely, otherwise, with the engine throttle at idle, it will cause the situation you describe.
Welcome to Steel Soldiers. Nice find! As far as history, you are in much better shape than most of us trying to figure this out on 1950's vehicles, as the unit markings on the bumpers are present and legible! I see TX-NG which is Texas National Guard. So at one point your A1 was here in my...

The 60 amp alternator was used in almost every US tactical vehicle from 1966 to present. Several manufacturers made them, and they are interchangeable.
The M35 conversion harness is really not needed. Just make up a 8 gauge cable going from the 1/4" power stud on the alternator to the + battery terminal on the passenger side. Then splice in a 14 ga wire at the ignitor connector and run it over to the excite pigtail on the alternator.
The...
The tailgate with the step for some reason did not survive well in service, and was usually replaced with a solid one. The BO lamp on the right is not an early/late thing, they all were that way, but trucks that remained in service into the 1960's usually had the lamp replaced with the same as...
VERY NICE GMC! Perfect early tailgate! Still has the blackout stop on the right side. I wish all scrap yards would think twice about cutting every single thing that rolls in.
