Sweet! What is the trick to get the wheel bearing nut torqued properly, just the usual "tighten until it binds and then back off"? It seems like the torque on the nut directly influences the gear contact on the wheel end spider gears. Also, the knuckle is dry, correct? Saves time there.
Wow, some great photography there. Thanks for posting these and your others as well. H50 is one of my favorite shows and I'm glad it is doing well. The tie in with the Navy brings a lot to the show, sounds like you guys basically make that happen for them. I love Hawaii and would have loved...
Thanks for posting this. The as issued IFAK is more oriented to gunshot wounds. I made up a companion IFAK with items suited for more typical first aid, like lacerations. Contains a saline solution for irrigating wounds as one item.
You have a turret traverse drive mechanism for a US armored vehicle, the crank is a backup if power fails, the motor most likely is 24 volt DC, 50-100 amps depending on load.
Hmm, I see that, on the regular CCKWs the suffix letters are on that data plate as well as the frame VIN stamping. Maybe because all the CCWs were cargo, GMC omitted the suffix letters. I'll have to check mine.
Holy cow I had no clue you could pull the axle shaft like you pictured! I guess that is rear only? I am very apprehensive with working on those wheel end pinion gears. That system is SO UNUSUAL (to me anyway), I am used to wheel end planetaries.
What codes is it throwing? In TX removing the cat will get you into an endless cycle of dealing with crooked inspection stations. Better to fix it right. Agreed with Rockauto for cats, much cheaper than local sourced and oem quality. Make sure the engine is not misfiring or your new cat...
Not hard to find parts. Visit the vehiclesofvictory.com website for parts suppliers. I have to scan in some pics of my truck, they are all 35mm from back in the day.
Ah Ha! Missed the non-driving front axle in your pics. Yes the CCW is the "line haul" version of the venerable CCKW. Still has the GM transfer case, just missing low range and everything associated with front output shaft. The truck is still very desirable (I have one that I fully restored)...
I had a 11.00-20 NDCC on the rt front blow out at 50 mph on a deuce. It was a loud bang, the truck dropped down and was pulling hard, but controlling it was no problem.
Very observant of that box truck driver.
I can't say for sure without doing research. I noticed the power pack on your loader was in-line and not like a M113 with the transfer case. The M113 transfer case is 1:1 ratio, and serves the purpose of making the power pack square so it will fit in the right front corner of the M113. Having...
Great article on the Mite in the August 2014 issue of the MVPA Supply Line. Just got it in the mail. Lots of critical restoration info, especially for the engine and chrome lining.
Austringer, thanks for the info on the difference between a Mite and M38A1 windshield. I was taught incorrectly!
The Allison automatic has a 1:1 top gear. Your road speed will have a lot to do with what the ratio is in the final drives. This thing could have a special ratio given it's purpose. Otherwise there are two ratios available, the M548 Cargo Carrier ratio and the M113 APC (faster) ratio. The...
There are lots of problems that can cause this. In my case, one of the ring terminals on the buss bar on the firewall was corroded and creating high resistance.
