I bought a new one on eBay where that port had been eliminated at the factory.
Mine started leaking like others have stated but always ran wonderful. Never sucked air.
Once you have it off you will see how easy it is to plug and reinstall if you go that route.

What was done to truck besides the new batteries?
I know most guys spend 1k on a truck sitting that long to get it on the road.
Clean tank?
New Fuel pump?
Replace ALL the rubber fuel lines?
Sounding like IP, but could also be starving for fuel.

I know about the steering lock but it said to use only when backing straight up.
Any turning will shear the pin.

Just recovered a M989A1 HEMAT
408 miles towing a heavy trailer was an experience.
Could not find much in pictures on exactly how it looked hooked up. A few side shots, but nothing in detail.
I knew how to hook it, but didn't know how much slack would be in the power cord and air lines.
