What is really is "exciting" is that the American Tax Payer funds lots of stupidity. Guess hauling it back would have cost more than the value of the equipment. What grinds my gears is the possibility that our guys will have that same equipment shooting at us the next time we show up there...

It wasn't a lot of fun, but it definitely needed to happen.
Sad that it is a common problem.
Wonder if you fixed it sooner rather than later - maybe the rust wouldn't be as bad as mine became?
.
Nice. What you have on the back of the truck is a "headache bar" for the "gin pole" setup. Those "eyes" on the left and right are so you can use a snatchblock with that rear mounted winch. Gives you the ability to drag something toward the truck from the left or right. And there is most...

So, over the past few days the bolts holding the plate on top of the cab have been removed. Most of them were a dream to buzz out. Three were rusted all to h%&!. Drill, grind, drill some more and finally the plate is down on the ground to be wire brushed...
I don't know how many YEARS it...

I want to start by saying that paint and body isn't something I claim to be good at.
Anything you suggest will be greatly appreciated!
Not really sure why, but the grill on my M1089 is made out of fiberglass. The strange part (to me) is that it is "hairy" now. It had been stored inside...

Nice write-up. Thank you.
I have to agree that most folks don't remember the "BO" days. Before Overdrive
The two and three speed autos when the powerglide was still movin cars down the highway worked just fine.
The explanation definitely helps. I always wondered how in the world...

Neat! I have definitely discovered that the magic of being part of this group is somebody who has been there and done that.
Especially somebody with a searchable description. For me the name of what I want to find takes more time than any repair!

Thanks 84M923 !
Yes sir. She is a M936. It is looking better all the time. Fix a little, play a little, replace a part or several, and play a little more. I still have plenty to do, but it was amazing what some wire brushing, rub-down with Acetone, then rattle can paint did for the...

Welcome to the group!
M55a2 seems to be a 5-Ton as best I can tell. Have to admit I don't know for sure. I seem to have discovered the M814 is the same truck as the M55 (long wheel base) the 250 cummins. The M55a0 had a gasser, the M55a1 had the Mack, and a M55a2 had the Hercules...

I understand - and it seems worthy of having. Give it a few days, and if I can help we will make it happen. I just want to be sure that it looks as much as the original and having that is the solution to type size and so on...

If you don't find somebody else that has what you need, I may be able to help.
I can create more a more perfect piece of the artwork to print the sticker with the sample in my hands.
OR we could work from pictures if you lay a ruler on the left and right.
The picture of the truck looks good...
.
That looks exactly like mine. Definitely looks like "factory" to me.
The strap comes across the front of the hand grab.
Both sides look the same and both brackets are beefy and carc painted.
Pictured the passenger side of my 2002 truck M1088
The other S&S is a 1996 that has no brackets and...
.
DieselAddict you definitely are right and you are the exception to the rule.
In my mind, you are to be commended.
It sure would be nice to have a spare AOH pump. Being able to remove and replace - then rebuild inside in the air conditioning - would be really good. Maybe a rebuilt pump and...
.
The "Twins" look really nice together!
Hat to hear that your compressor belt shredded.
On the other hand, at least it got you home.
Compressor wrench would be nice to have but maybe you could roll the new belt onto the pulley.
.
So, my uneducated and HMMWV deficient brain needs help.
You install this DuraMax into the engine bay on this big ugly (cute?) four wheel buggy.
It runs low RPM and pulls really hard. I have heard that before even in just a plain pickup truck.
Now, what about mating the gears on the axles...
