Don't know if you have a local community college out where you are, but many years ago I went to CPCC here in Charlotte to get myself a welding certificate. Where I was working at the time I could get paid a couple more bucks an hour by having one. That was my motivation at the time.
When I...

That type of fitting is really nice to have.
Something goes wrong and with a roll of hose, you can replace that hose with a "bad spot" in it.
Finding the fittings sure are hard to find though. Maybe I just don't know where to look...

Good Deal!
Now your co-pilot can tell you which way to turn.
In all honesty, hopefully now you can get her involved in the Big Green Truck disease with you!

Not sure about the height, but the dovetail shouldn't be a problem behind the tarp. Most jeeps aren't taller than people - unless they have big tires - so you could be "home free" so to speak.
I can't find the picture to save my life, but the most useful thing I have seen recently on a M871...

In my humble opinion, the TM is just about useless when it comes to instructions on replacing those "biscuits".
Removing the front bumper is optional. It gives you more room to operate but is not required.
Removing the grill does help mostly because it allows you to see what you are doing...

After I let my M1088 sit for about a week after raining - the truck didn't have the power to break the shoes away from the drum.
Solving that problem required a BFH (Big Freakin Hammer).
If you drove the truck into a creek, then drove it out of the creek and down the road
a few miles the...

Welcome to the outfit!
I saw your post about making an overland camper out of a M886.
There is a pretty good thread on that truck.
Can't imagine why it wouldn't work for that purpose.

Might be worth looking at DOT regulations for hauling fuel.
It might require HazMat licensing to haul that quantity.
Also echo the full is better than half full to avoid the "slosh effect". Don't know if you have ever driven a large half full tank or not, but the first time you slap on the...

Hi Ryan,
No worries. A lot of folks here were where you are now. Asking questions and reading TM's will be your friend. I saw a recent post from a member that was hauling to or from Hawaii with a big truck, so the Transportation Forum might be a good start.
The tough part of this puzzle...

I can't answer the question that you asked - but those wheels on that car would be a real "hoot".
Yeah, I know you didn't ask that either.
Made me laugh though, so it had value

Crazy question... I can't imagine the clutch wearing that badly in a hundred miles. Is there any oil coming out of the bottom drain hole in the bellhousing? Seems like something big would have to be happening to chew through enough clutch to go to nothing in that distance.

Hi abfisher1798 ,
I was watching a YouTube video this morning that had a M1078 that was converted to a 20k (payload) dump truck. I did a search and it seems that Northern Tool website has a NorTrac 12v, with a 2.5 Gallon tank and a 2 horse motor. The picture looks a lot like the video I was...

I have found a set of bows and a tarp. Plan is to help protect the rubber hoses - as well as hiding it from above. Don't know that my truck (dang sure hope not!) will need to be camouflaged but it will be a neat add-on.
.
Agreed. My truck does not have any sort of level winder on the front or the back of the truck.
There is a steel plate and very heavy springs on the boom winch.

That would be nice, but only about 10% of the LMTVs had hydraulics and a PTO on them. Seems like as ridiculous as the prices are, having the ability to "hand raise" the body would become important.
Unless there is an electric hydraulic pump to do the job.
Thinking out loud: I wonder if it...
