Minimal Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) for a cucv

The current 6TMF batteries, which have replaced the 6TL's, typically have 750 CCA. They usually are rated for 200+ minutes of reserve capacity and measure about 11" x 10.5" x 9H. They are heavy as hell (75lbs or so) and they are expensive (usually $120-$160 each new  ), although there is...

True, the foot traffic is decent, but the spaces are small. If you're driving a duece or anything large, you need 2 spaces back to back, just to fit the vehicle and have some display area for stuff. If MV's get in without vehicle passes, then I could live with that. I've heard that before but I...

I had an interesting night last night in my 5 ton.

Re: RE: Re: RE: I had an interesting night last night in my I'm not knocking the idea, just saying that it had to be a shocker. Double wrapping the chain might have held it, if you had enough chain to get it around twice.

RE: Re: RE: I had an interesting night last night in my 5 to But, apparently a heavier chain would be more useful for keeping your shorts clean!! WOW! Glad it turned out OK and no one was hurt.

According to the registration form, spaces are now $55 each  and $25 for each additional vehicle, plus $6 for each additional vendor pass. I hope that price includes one of each for EVERY spot...

Glow plugs not working and short in engine control circuit

Re: RE: Re: Glow plugs not working and short in engine contr In the -20, it's appendix F, and in the -34, it's appendix E. But, the diagrams are not the best I've ever seen. You can see what else is in the circuit, but it's a little hard to see what's wired into the fuse box where....

Differences between military and civilian 6.2L engines

I think have heard this somewhere as well. But, given the fact that these trucks were built on the same assembly lines as civilian trucks, I tend to think that is probably not really the case. I could more readily believe it about HMMWV motors, since AMG would have ordered what they needed and...

    Oval thingy below the bed

That's an M35A3. Good luck finding those wheels (except maybe at a DRMO in the sandbox?).

Glow plugs not working and short in engine control circuit

Re: Glow plugs not working and short in engine control circu Will it crank at all, or are the glow plugs the only things that do not work? I checked the 20 manual and it's a little hard to say what could be causing a short like that, since its mostly sensors and indicator lights. There doesn't...

Removing the fan and replacing with electric fans

Hmmmm, My experience has always been that it was next to impossible to get a deuce up to temperature, even in 90 degree weather, unless it was working a bit. I would not actually have been worried about idling so much, unless I had just pulled a nice long hill. A clutch fan surely would be the...

Removing the fan and replacing with electric fans

I'm not sure what CFM the duece fan was rated to pull, but I would say it is "a lot". With that said, you might have problems trying to find electric fans rated to pull that kind of air, unless you are pulling them off of a big truck. And, as Bjorn points out, you will need a bigger alternator...

    Dammit! Missed another deal!

That definitely sucks... But just think of it this way: Someone probably posted it to another forum/list as an act of good will and, bless their hearts, they informed someone else about it who was then able to get to it first...

Differences between military and civilian 6.2L engines

As Magnus pointed out, the military used the "J" code engine in all CUCV's. This is the same engine that was used in heavy duty (non-emmmission) civilian trucks over 8600lbs GVW. The "C" engine was for light duty (emmissions) applications. I, too, have heard that the mil pump had some hardened...

    Unimog SEE at GSA

Re: RE: Re: Unimog SEE at GSA Don't bet the retirement on that one... Nor that one.... Agreed. I understand the urge, but having been on both sides of the fence, I would rather not know who is bidding against me nor do I want people announcing what there is to bid on. There's probably...

    Unimog SEE at GSA

Man, this gives us privates (even long timers like me) a bad name. Why is the urge to "share" so overwhelming? I guess some people never had trucks they wanted to bid on and didn't want them TO BE ADVERTISED MORE THAN THEY ALREADY ARE??? :?

Two engine questions (mystery engine electrical pigtail).

Re: Two engine questions (mystery engine electrical pigtail) I think you're right on. The cold idle sensor is on the rear of the passenger side head and that's what should be plugged in there.

    Which is better?

Re: RE: Which is better? They both have protruding "spindles" with manual locking hubs, but the D60 will be 8-lug and the 10-bolt 6 lug. There was a civilian 8-lug 10-bolt for 3/4 ton applications, but no CUCV used it. The D60 hub is about 4", while the 10-bolt is about 3". It is noticable...

    8 Bolt Rims

Re: RE: Re: RE: 8 Bolt Rims Actually, 16.5's were standard until 1981, with 16" as optional equipment I believe. From 82-87, all 3/4-ton (not the light 3/4-tons with 6-lug wheels, but the regular 3/4-tons) and 1-ton trucks/vans/Suburbans should definitely have the right wheels. I ran Ford...
