G, I think Chagen was more asking about doing an inframe overhaul, which I don't remember being discussed here before. Anyway, G's referenced thread has an excellent pic of how the transfer has to go together, with the shafts pointing up. I have always rebuilt these on the garage floor. You...
Welcome to the site. Start to look for what? Parts start with Hemmings Motor News. Restoration info on the staff car forum on G503.com. In the 1940's, the VIN was the motor number. Look for numbers stamped into the engine block, right under the head. The VIN will not be 17 digits, that...
Welcome to the site. You will make things much more difficult for yourself trying to do this inframe. When you replace the cover of the tcase, you want all the shafts pointing up or I would imagine it would be impossible to line everything up.
Where do y'all think the price will bottom out at in a few years? $500 is still a little steep for this old boy. I like the appearance way more than the other 24 Volt version.
The twin caddys at 280 hp have a hard time moving the Stuart around, especially in pivot turns. What are you hoping for with 170 hp? If I were forced to do a repower it would be twin 396's with Allisons from a school bus.
OOps I meant 366's. Thanks 11 Echo.
I was lucky to be able to preview as I was passing though Lufkin the week before. Usually I am crossing my fingers like you. The deuces in this sale were hideous and they all went to scrap. The 10 ton will go back on the road, no prob. Just time and money.
I looked at that one and yes it was the pick of the litter. The sand colored 1009 was OK too. The 10 ton I won in that auction just arrived and I am happy with it as well. Easley's Wrecker from Lufkin did the recovery for me and did a great job at a reasonable price.
Thanks for the post! Love to see factory pics of new stuff being built. Most of the time in manufacturing nobody takes the time to take pics of what is going out the door.
Joined the M123A1C club today thanks to GSA!! She looks like she went through a forest fire, but that is not the case. Someone started sandblasting and quit halfway through. I was able to preview and truck looks basically OK. We'll see about the power train.
Sorry about adopting your...
Another 700 mile road march under the 915's belt. Flawless trip up to Hooks and back on the first nice cool day. Trailer is a '89 Baillie with full air brakes, in great shape. GL crew great as always. I really like the looks of this tractor trailer combination!
Looks like RRAD is the...
I pulled my D-3 Cat dozer around with my M880 for a while on a tag-a-long trailer. It pulled it but did not like it. I melted the plastic brake caliper pistons doing this.
