Time out. The cracked housing the the winch worm brake housing and there is no oil in there. It looks like the brake band was overtightend and tore loose and has stuck the worm shaft. This is a simple repair, just need to pull the bumper. Checking the tightness of this brake band is not...
Part of my job is to write work instructions for manufacturing. I have made those kinds of mistakes lots of times. Which method did you use to reassemble?
The bull gear goes in first, then screw the worm into it and tap the shaft into the worm bearing as it advances into the bull gear. Polish and lube up the worm shaft real good so it will go into the bearing easy. This is as memory serves me, it's been a while.

Sounds like something deep inside the winch is stripped out. Drum should spin when the levers are moved and sound is coming from the winch.
Castle Bravo, does your truck still use the 24 volt part of the 12/24 alternator? I can see it in the pic, but I do not know why you would still need it with the battery equalizer. Reason I ask is my alternator just fried and the replacements with the piggyback 24 volt rectifier are big bucks.
