It is 11/16"-16 and there are 17 nuts per engine. The engine is a Hercules HXD, 855 CID. The studs go all the way down to the main bearing caps, so don't mess them up. Keep soaking with penetrating lube such as Liquid Wrench, and tap the studs with a brass hammer to break the rust loose...
Don't feel too bad. Scrap yards are like a black hole. Once through the gate, it is minutes before it's gone forever. I swear you could drive a new Cadillac in there and they would crush it and put it on the pile.
Welcome Wes. Do not speed in Diboll, TX. Keep an eye out for the GSA Forestry auctions right up the road from you. Lots of nice? trucks 3 or 4 times a year.
The driveshaft is almost too heavy to pick up and install by yourself. Check the Truck Trader for wrecking yards in Texas (Ft Worth area) who are parting out M920's and cut one down.
You are not kidding about a new beast. Lots of unusual features such as the parking brake system. Can't wait to try out the antilock brakes on mine. Congrats and I am so glad this fine truck went to a good home.
I re-plumbed by M275A2 (tractor deuce) using the pre-made steel lines from the auto parts store. That was in 1995 and I have not had to touch the brakes since (using silicone fluid).
Feedback score seems to be a rating system for buying / selling. Where is the reputation system from before, where people got reputations for BRINGING KNOWLEDGE AND VALUE TO THE SITE?
Your yard needs to check the radiation detectors, that Chevy still has the bigtime radioactive gauges in it. I will be glad to buy the cluster if you care to pull it. Too bad the truck has to die.
Even Ingersoll Rand is made in Taiwan. I do not think there are any Made in USA small air tools anymore. How sad. Hit up your local pawn shop, you will find some nice tools cheap. Offer half the asking price.
Wow those Portugal M5's were rusty inside when Southeastern brought them in back in the 80's; looks like 20 more years of rusting has not been kind to yours. Time to find a sheet metal fabricator!
Thanks guys, lets keep this friendly. These trucks getting cut up is just criminal.
About the windshield, the RSMS boys cannibalized that at some point. But I have a NOS one waiting to go on.
I know some of you are kicking around buying one of these 931/932/936's coming up, so I thought I would tell you how things went for me. My last GL purchase of a 931A2 at Polk was a disaster in every way, so I was especially gun-shy about another fiasco. I will have to say this time I came...
I sandblast the crap out of the rims all the time. You do not have to keep the lock rings matched to the rims. Powdercoat is a poor choice for rims, it will not protect against rust like a zinc-rich primer and epoxy topcoat can.
