You need to take the drive flange off and remove the wheel bearing nuts. Then the hub and drum will pull off in your hands. You may have to back off the brake shoes.
I think Melita did that to make it more painful for the scrappers. Now they have to go through extra trouble rather than be able to drive the trucks directly to the scrap yards.
Nice vid, Krink. Thought I was there for a sec. That part of I-10 between El Paso and San Antonio will bore you to tears. Especially at 55 mph.
Good think you knew about the override screw.
Official portrait. No smoke yet. I think it is a 1967. Paperwork found in cab indicates it at one time belonged to a CA National Guard unit 1/18th Cav. Was still in service in 1992. What a survivor! Edit: CARNAC's report shows to be a 1968.
VIN's of the Kaiser-Jeep 5 tons seem to follow the format of the Deuce VINs: The first 2 numbers are the "Lot", the next two are the "Chassis type", and the final 5 are the sequntial serial number starting at 10,000. ( for that lot)

Picture 6 is one half of the windshield armor. The pieces with the 4 bolt holes cluster spaced every several inches are rear armor plates where the machine gun trolley ring was attached. If the pieces are torched (it will be obvious) in my opinion they are scrap. Check with Gary Hebding...
You came to the right place for ID's and to sell as well (in the classifieds). This radio stuff is in high demand. Post up pics of the materiel and data plates.
Maryland is one of the 29 states that requires USDOT registration for intrastate operation as well as interstate operation.
This is all so clearly spelled out on the FMCSA website.
Texas does as well, which is why you will see TXDOT and USDOT numbers painted on the sides of my M915, 916...
I couple of guys around here have swapped in 6.2 diesels (ex CUCV or HMMWV). Goes in as easy as a 350. Top speed would be even worse than a CUCV unless you 4L80E'd it.
Your "parts truck" looks good too. Check your points for corrosion, this will keep the engine from firing on a truck that has set up. On the brakes, top off the master cylinder and if you are super lucky, the brakes will start to work. Skip the mess down the road. You won't need it.
Nice restoration! I thought Bishop rang a bell. My family stayed at the Rocking K Ranch there in 1969, when I was 5 yrs old. I still remember the place.
