Good luck on your trip and sorry you will be leaving our great state. BTW, GL will issue SF97's for older sales. Would have saved you a bunch of trouble.
Here is a pic of the piston c-clip, as you may be able to see it has holes for your snap ring tool. I really doubt this is your issue, as much racket would have occured as this was ingested through the engine. A much more likely scenario is you left the ignition on, and you have hydrostatic...
Just be aware of one thing. Those are HMMWV engines, and uncle did not go through the 2 day azz ache of swaping an engine out and in a HMMWV just for the fun of it. At the very least I would ground hop it in the can for obvious issues like knocks, and do an oil analysis.
Agreed with chaplain. The 87 or first two digits are the year that the item was brought into Air Force inventory. It may not correspond with the year of mfg.
OK, I checked my two WWII 235's and neither of them have a number stamped in the boss to the left of the distributor. I think what has happend over the years is this: New in the crate surplus 235's used to be available super cheap in the 1950's. What people would do is junk the worn out motor...
I once flat towed a Burma Ford (10,000 lbs) with a Jimmy and 35 mph was about it, 15 mph up moderate hills. Had traffic backed up behind us for miles on a little 2 lane road. The poor 270 is no powerhouse.
Leo Porter (of M715 parts and build fame) had one at his yard in Dallas years ago, he towed it there with a M715 (repowered). They are not oversized or very heavy.
I have a stack of titles for the 1.5 ton Chevy and the motor number always starts with "BV" and then 6 numerals. I have 2 stove bolt 6's in the warehouse and I will check them over tomorrow for the number location.
Sounds like they want the "motor number". I'm not a stove bolt 235 expert, but on the GMC 270 that number is stamped on a little boss near the distributor.
I wanted it too, bid into the 17's, but I knew better than to think I would get it. Try finding a commercial 6x6 winch truck with 30,000 miles for $30k, not going to happen even for a '94 model. Congrats 8519.
The crazy thing is how is it DoD is getting rid of this Freightliner while they are...
That's what I love about this site. I have been doing this hobby for 30 years and I learn something new about MVs here every day. That will be one handy trailer!
I was at Ft Polk today loading out my usual pile of overpriced crap. DRMO pickups now have to be done through the commercial vehicle gate from Hwy 28. Make sure you have registration, insurance, i.d., your GL paperwork, and Linda and Maxine's names and cell numbers! The new gate structure...
