Is there a place to download a transmission manual... I think its called the unit repair?

spankybear, TM-9-2320-272-24P-2 image of what I called the "rotation manifold". TM calls it a "Hydraulic Swivel Assembly" Picture below... I haven't removed mine since with no spare - the truck would be dead in the water. It passes fluid with no leaks. Just not 24v power. Could be Ground...

    M923 13 Speed Swap

I keep wondering if there isn't some sort of engine and transmission combo where more horsepower could help these big heavy trucks (wreckers) move out a little faster and have "longer legs" on hills. After saying that comes the more difficult part: without losing the low end pulling power...

Is there a place to download a transmission manual... I think its called the unit repair?

spankybear, I believe coachgeo is most likely correct. Repairs with whole unit replacement are a lot like these slushbox transmissions... Not taking anything away from those who served - but there simply isn't anything LESS COMPLICATED than a manual transmission. No sensors, no air powered...

    Electrical box under the cab

Hi Will, I haven't really done ANY homework - so just a question in passing. You mentioned that being an ABS module. I have what is titled as a M1088a1 tractor. Truck runs great and stops on a dime. The ABS light is on though. Figure that should be addressed... Any tips on where to start...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Wow! I like cool weather. I can deal with 40 even - but 10 or 20 is NOT my thing at all. Trees here are starting to turn. I am guessing that the cold snap got that started. We were almost 80 today and about 60 right now. Starting to rain... I don't have a block heater or even a grill...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

I got mine local. There is a place about a quarter mile down the road named Campbell Brown. They had aluminum tanks with an aluminum mounting bracket on them. Gets them up off the steel plate the original tanks were U-Bolted to... Over the years, salt and slag wedged itself between the tank...

    Recommended Tool for the road

Wow! 3 seasons - guessing an hour per landing... Setup, Wait, Land, Shutdown, Deal with the Chopper, and either power up and take off again - and then gather and shutdown the pucks. I would guess an hour minimum. Who knows how many landings per season. DEFINITELY sounds like those batteries...

    Recommended Tool for the road

Have you had a chance to play with the magnetic road pucks? Any idea what kind of battery life they have? Just curious... I spotted them last weekend and considered them as well.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Yes Sir! Thanks Owen. All is well with my wrecker. Cooler weather has improved my outlook on being outside to work on it. I got one rusty air tank replaced. Powered everything up with 150 psi of house air - and found the next tank in the cascade has the same problem in the same place...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Wow! Now that's using the old bean... Definitely like the idea of using cardboard to "keep stupid stuff from happening". And since the box was so large - you have plenty more for the next project.

Heck yes! Just need to work on the left and right sides so you can see out. You aren't looking for airplanes - so a slightly covered front window just might work. :)

    M939a1 wheel removal

If you have some good FLAT ground, preferably concrete and lift one side of one axle at the time and NON-RECALL jackstands. Harbor Freight had a round of trouble with failures. To swap the tires, I think it might be safer to do one axle at the time. Having a 4 foot crowbar to roll the new...

    M939A1 NHC Turbo

Those big tires have most likely affected the speedometer. Use your cell phone. There is a cool free app for Android and Apple called HUD. It is a heads-up display for speed. I have a big time with it occasionally on Amtrak just to see how fast we are going... It uses GPS and the readout is...

    Recommended Tool for the road

Welcome to the group! There is a list here that is fairly comprehensive. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/essential-tools-to-have-for-an-fmtv-add-your-02.152218/post-1851692 Another really useful thing to have is a "Day Glow" vest or jacket if you find yourself on the side of the road...

800 series 5 ton air pack reseal

I found a Technical Manual (TM) that explains the process. It's an antique, but it should be helpful (attached below). Also had a shortcut marking the 1980 version of the same manual TM 9-2320-260-34-2-3 that is dated 1980. More details in the link below...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Yeah, and on giving up drinking - you don't bounce as well either if you fall off the hood - and hit the ground. Reminds me of that Christmas special and "Bumbles Bounce. :) I wonder how much more we might get done if all of us lived in the same neighborhood? A hand here and there sure would...

    CUCV Arctic Grille Front

. Strangely enough, Chevrolet (and GMC by default) did an amazing job sizing the radiator on these trucks. I had a '79 civilian that never got warm in the winter. Changed thermostat and even installed a real mechanical gauge - just so I could know the real coolant temperature. Even drilled...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Wow! Clear glass... I thought factory glass was only available from the factory in the basic "military cloudy" finish. ;-) Really does look nice. Now on to the next part of the project. Windshield wipers. Maybe you can tip the left side all the way out, then reach over to the right side...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

It REALLY grinds my gears when they tell you they can order it. Maybe I am just a grouchy old man - but dangit - I came to (insert store name here) with the idea I would pick up what I wanted, go home and complete my project. If I had wanted to order it there is this really cool thing called...

Bolt in a Tire on my M1088 / LMTV

Thanks juanprado. My spare has about the same tread life as what I have on the ground now. I thought the tires looked pretty good. Not new by any means - but decent. No dry rot. No cracks. I guess a spare in the rack with a plug is better (safer) than a plugged tire on the road...
