To drag up an old thread . . . I have a 300 mile high speed M1031 flat tow coming up, why can't I put the transmission in park and the transfer (NP205) in neutral, unlock the hubs, and leave the rear driveshaft bolted up? Shouldn't all the oil in the transfer lube the few gears that are spinning?
Easy, KS, GL did have a preview day, Tuesday the 18th. I could not make it due to work pressures. Here is a pic of one of the trucks in typical condition. Not a pretty sight. If it were me, I would plan on flat towing out or sending a Landoll trailer to suck it up.
The wheels are just everyday 10 hole Budd 22.5's that any truck junk yard will have plenty of. Anyone who has buyer's remorse PM me because I have loser's remorse. The Saginaw RSMS site does not have a DRMO operation, it is a civilian run rebuild facility for military trucks of the Texas...
Dh and DHwife, at 65 mph, is the engine RPM within reason? As in around 2500 rpm? I am struggling to decide between the Wrangler MT mod and the stock rubber with a gear vendors overdrive.
My first M35A2 tractor conversion had the LD engine in it and I loved it. It did a great job pulling 30,000 gvw at 55 mph. Always left a light stream of smoke behind. As far as the 10 second oil pressure buildup, the multifuels have lived with that without issue since 1964, over 45 years if...
Hear me now and believe me later, when you look up "reputable surplus truck dealer" in the dictionary, there is a picture of Memphis Equipment there. Sure they are expensive, but have you been to your local Caterpillar dealer lately? Max and co. up there have been doing a great job since army...
Incredible restoration. For everyone else, when you find one of these on someone's hunting rig, swap them a brand new Warn and put the Ramsey 50 on ebay, and watch the bidding war begin. These winches are the holy grail of accessories for the army jeep crowd.
US Army trucks only had the stars on the hood and doors up until the MERDEC 4 color cammo adoption in the 1970's. The star on the hood points forward on post-WWII trucks!!!
Love that 3 axle gooseneck! First I have ever seen. What's that like, 40,000 gvw?
I have found that when loading up, just line up, hold the wheel straight, have a ground guide, and let her climb on up there. Stopping half way is when things go wrong.
I feel your pain, but: Lessons learned: 1. Get your initial EUC taken care of on something low value like a 105, that way when you win a truck, you can go get it fast before too much time goes by. 2. Unfortunate facts of life: Death, taxes, and equipment at DRMO yards will be forklift...
Someone flipped the worm gear around. It's a regular deuce winch. Pipeline truck takes a 5 ton winch and the auger truck winch is made by Highway and is cast iron.
Very interesting post. I too have noticed being bent over at "Dear John" for parts for my lawn equipment. There is something to be learned from the timber industries' use of 5 tons tractors as "set out" trucks, i.e. pulling loaded log trailers through the woods to the highway. My...
Looks like you got the Clark 5 speed from the CCKW. I would keep that. Otherwise looks like a great candidate for restoration. Work on it a little every day and one day it will be done.
