Drag the bed with a tractor under a tree or some other sturdy overhead brace, then use a comealong to winch the bed up and drive the truck under it. 2000 lbs is correct.
Sounds like a bearing in the transmission is finished. Very unlikely you will make the remaining distance without something coming apart. Sorry to be negative. Like you have seen, there are truckers everywhere along I-10 looking for loads.

It is the same heater as in the Gladiator pickups, only with a 24 volt motor. It was a kit from Kaiser. The kits are hard to come by. The motors are not. The underdash thing you are showing is a JC Whitney type universal heater.
What do you mean "stock M715 heater"? The stock M715 heater is not under the dash, it is in the engine compartment, and it will heat the cab to sweltering hot.

Yup 500 is a steal. This is how you want to buy these trucks, clean and rust free. There is plenty of other work to be done on them to be overwhelmed with rust repairs as well.

Grab the key with a vice grip and pry up with a chisel. Use a hammer to drive the chisel between the shaft and the vice grip. May take a few times. If you bugger up he key you can always grind it smooth again.
