    M8 E2 Cargo Tractor tracked, First post

    Anybody else spot the M246 tractor wrecker bed/crane mounted to the back of it? What a foolish idea to attempt to resurrect that antique for a gold mining operation. That thing is 70 years old! Every seal and rubber part is shot. Belongs in a museum with a skysweeper hooked behind it.

    GTB trucks of all variants are rare, production numbers were around 10,000 if I recall. Sure if the bomb hoist were missing I would say make a prototype clone. But yours is a survivor and to deconstruct it is kinda not what I would do. That hoist has to be one of the most useful features ever...

    Don't trust your voltmeter! Mine reads zero, 22, 24, 28, 34 depending on how hard you tap on the glass. Verify with a known good vom at the power points near the PDP.

    That would be easy were it not for the 24 volt requirement of the WTEC control.

    Is that a GM or GEP engine? GM will have GM embossed on the valve cover, GEP will have a label on the valve cover and Navistar diamonds in the engine valley.

    Guys the LDT engine in deuces came about after 1970, either factory or as retrofit. All the A2 deuces built in the 60's were LD engines. So a deuce that still has a LD engine has nothing to do with fuel trailers.

    Resolved. Reseated all three cables at the WTEC3 controller behind the passenger kick panel and normal operation resumed. Amazing how even with gold terminals, resistance can still build up over 20 years and cause the self check ohms to fall out of spec.

    Yes. Computer checks for open circuit and short circuit on each solenoid circuit. There are a pair of wires for each solenoid. Neither wire is grounded. Oil is fine, we only forded like 2 feet depth.

    Now getting flashing "7" only, no engagement. Code is open circuit to one solenoid. Reseated the connectors at the cab and transmission, no help. Looks like time to break out the ohm meter.

    Guys, have not had time to dig into this yet, but lots of times ya'll have been down similar paths and have quick fixes. '98 M1079 with WTEC 3. Shifted great until start of fording ops during 4 hours of high water rescues last night. Symptoms: would not shift out of 2nd sometimes, 7 showing...

    Towing M211 with tow bar

    If you don't pull the driveshafts, make for sure the transfer is in neutral. I was towing a M221 and either I did not get it in neutral or it jumped into gear. Soon the truck became super hard to pull. I stopped and the Hydramatic was super hot.
