I painted mine with a brush, in the summer heat (South Carolina). Hard as a rock next day. Three years later I can see where the paint is a little thin, and there are places where the underlying paint has come loose, so it's been repainted. Still looks good.
DUKW tires are the same size, but a much higher load rating (11.00 x 18), usually a G or H, while the Goat tires are an E or F. Which makes sense, since the DUKW and cargo is over 20K, while the Goat is under 10K.
That is known as the Auxiliary Baking Set. It's not part of the MKT and had to be requisitioned for those units that wanted one. I have two for my MKT that I purchased five or six years ago from someone who won a group of them from GL. They do come up from time to time, so do a search for one...
The chains for the middle rack hook into the four tabs in the top (2 on each side). The heavy solid sheet is to even out the heat in the bottom of the oven, and there is a right way to put it in (front and rear tabs should be the same as the middle rack). The top rack is really designed to be...
Definitely a later DUKW, because it has the sloped front windshield, which did not start till after the first several thousand were produced. It's covered in David Doyle's comprehensive book on them.
I have a GI one there, but use it as a lid/general work surface. We use the full color set (white-bread; red-raw meat;brown-cooked meat;blue-seafood;yellow-poultry;green-veggies) for actually cutting stuff up.
Oil squirter pictured looks like the ones that came in my LDS-1A piston assemblies. Exactly what do the rings of the pistons look like? There are at least three types and which type is shown in the number of rings they have. The latest ones for the LDS have five rings. There are several...
Khloe is really growing up! And, yes, the pop rivets will fix the hinge problem. Get the ones that are LONG, as there is some fairly thick metal to set them through (ones that can 'grip' on 3/8" thickness or more).
I'm packing my ear muffs, extra ear plugs, and chamber flags. Might have to bring along my Armorers Tool Kit this year, as we could have used it last year more than once.
Flywheel housings for Marine Corps trucks did not have the storage hole because the plug was left in place all the time in operation as part of the deep water fording kit. Truck was ready to 'go swimming' all the time. Plug only removed for inspection when at the motor pool.
The S-280 is not as wide or as tall inside, as the inside of the box on the M1079, which is probably why the CG is lower. Most of it's weight is in the bottom as that is where the rails are. Inside there is only about 6'4" in height, even though it's 8 foot from the bed of my M-36 to the top...
Considering that a gallon of fuel for a generator delivered to a remote outpost in Afghanistan wound up costing over $450 a gallon delivered (it had to be flown into Bagram, then delivered to the base by helicopter, as that was the only reliable way of transport), fuel economy in remote areas of...
