I would also suggest buying the obvious parts you'll be needing now, so you can spread the cost out instead of a mass cash dump at once.......
Where is the truck located?
The Fort Bragg DRMO guys always seem to take themselves a little too seriously and that guy was way too full of himself.
The army disposed of the equipment via DLA, so it'll be DLA who makes an effort for recovery, I'd like too see them try that - recover thousands or tens of thousands of...
That's impossible to know without knowing the true condition of the vehicle and to what extent you want to restore it. It's currently a non-running vehicle, this could mean that you need to replace a few minor parts - or it could be a blown engine.
You take a risk in buying a non-running truck...
Looks like that's the supplemental armored door - these are appropriate for M998 series trucks. I'm surprised to see that they stopped all that. My understanding is that they're only supposed to stop small shrapnel.
Implementation of armor kits like that will require extensive mods to the vehicle - suspension and drivetrain especially and a turbo would be a great start. Otherwise you're just going to break stuff. Humvee's are no speed demons anyway and adding armor like that will only make it worse.
Get...
I actually had a response done up that basically explained this, but deleted it without posting because I'm sure it would only have been taken the wrong way by some readers.
I had the same issue not terribly long ago - can I guess that you were getting light gray smoke out of the exhaust when you were cranking for 10-20 seconds? The light will flash for a moment and then you're cranking. Starting up after its been running doesn't seem to be an issue, but that...
Curious - Does the fender mounted A/C provide rigidity - or has it been determined that the backing paste now provides sufficient support that the bracket isn't needed?
Question-did you bolt directly to the body or did you find the underbody mount/support for the fording stack?
I've been wanting to install the fording stack, but have been reluctant to do so without the support, which I haven't been able to find.
I think it does affect the resale value - and not necessarily for the better. Anything you do to it today, I would suggest that you make it easily converted back to original. I liken these to the GPW's and MB's available after WW2. They were plentiful then and not nearly so plentiful now. Those...
Ok, let's stop acting like children and get back to the point at hand.
I also think it is extremely unlikely that someone fired multiple rounds through the floorboard of the vehicle, but if you feel it gives you a cool story, then go for it. You'll likely get a lot of chocked eyebrows though...
Agreed. I think the novelty for many agencies have worn off. They get them for "emergencies" and then sit stagnant 98pct of them time. ****, I've got a sheriff's agency near me that has 12 of them for "emergencies" and most wouldn't start on demand if needed given how long they've sat unused.
I would have to agree with Gordon. Now is also a good time to install a ground harness as well. If you don't, you will likely have ground issues again.
I see your in Dacula - you're not terribly far from me (Athens area).
Take a look at the Operators Manual.
Per page 2-108 of the Operators Manual (section 2-11):
"Vehicle must be stopped, engine off and transmission shift lever placed in "N" (neutral) before transfer case can be shifted. Failure to do this will result in damage to drivetrain."
I agree with you on that. They were generally useless as we always carried way more ammo, water and fuel than there were trays to put it all in. I get the purpose of the slantback, but the accommodations for loadouts that were planned for the vehicles never jived with reality, even in the...
