Hi all,
I have a very early USMC M998 with 3-speed transmission. In 2005, it was refitted with a 6.5L engine with the 200 amp alternator.
When I start the truck, the alternator no longer puts out any power and the smart-start box keeps cycling the glow plugs.
The problem seems intermittent. I...
Hey all,
I'm looking to break down some NDT's.
It looks like there are 2 tools to remove the locking ring.
I have 33224 T23B. I need the tool that fits into the notch on the ring so I can pry it out of the groove. Does anyone know the proper number for that?
It seems that I'll be compelled to buy a gallon jug of liquid or a large tub of paste, so I don't want to buy a lifetime supply of the wrong thing.
Which do you guys prefer- paste or liquid? Any favorite brands? Any brands to steer clear of?
I might have some growling from the front passenger hub. It's difficult to hear over the engine.
This is an old, M998 with 7k axles. When I bought the truck, I got into the hubs and verified that all of the spindle nuts were tight and lock washers firmly engaged and tabs peened down. I broke...
I installed brand new axle boots on my truck maybe 2 years ago. I drive it monthly and haven't off-roaded it, yet.
The boots have basically disintegrated. They've both split and only the fact that I used Lucas Red 'n Tacky has kept things from becoming a giant mess. The grease has stayed put...
I have a *very* intermittent problem that is beginning to rear its head. (Engine is a 2005 6.5L installed in an early M998 paired up with the 3-speed).
Twice, when cold, my truck has exhibited a surge. One of those times, in the driveway, it actually revved up and stalled. I simply cranked it...
I've been offered a Ferret and it's not too far away. The usual "ran when parked" nonsense. The owner had passed away and the daughter heard about me as a potential buyer.
I realize that these are British. Since they were built up until 1972-ish, parts may still be available.
How stupid of...
If I understand correctly, the HMMWV fuel tank (especially the old style) has no kind of baffles in it.
The fuel gauge oscillates quite a bit during acceleration and braking.
When you get down to 1/4 tank or so, is it normal that you might occasionally grab some air as the fuel sloshes around...
Anyone have a spare low speed blower motor resistor (located under the dash) for M35/M54/M809 series trucks?
Big Mike's and Erik's seem out of stock. Thanks.
I now have this strong urge to buy an old M109 or M820 and wrap it in U-Haul livery.

This might sound dumb but I'm not really interested in upgrading to LED headlights.
I recently purchased some Ashwami headlights off of fleabay. They actually state "made in the USA" but I'm highly skeptical. When when they arrived, the wires were tagged totally incorrectly and I smoked a...
I tried searching this but came up empty.
I'm not an expert on bias tires with tubes and I'm still learning about their peculiarities. Visually, how much checking (cracking) is acceptable before you decide that a tire is unsafe?
Bear in mind that I don't haul commercially and my truck is...
I completely flushed the coolant system in my M813 a year ago. I got the water coming out pretty clean.
I replaced with ordinary green coolant (per Wes's advice IIRC) and then I added the proper amount of SCA.
For fun, I dipped a test strip into the overflow tank this weekend and the SCA...
I have a small 24v-12v stepdown converter that I'd like to use.
I'd like to use an un-amplified, bone stock CB radio and cell phone chargers on this circuit. I have no plans for high current draw stuff like electric tools or air compressors.
Wire #40 feeds the gauge illuminators from the...
This problem involves the OEM incandescent bulbs. I am NOT running LED's anywhere in this truck except for the gauge illuminators.
I observed my passenger headlight low beam not working.
I grabbed a spare headlight bulb and it promptly smoked the low beam again. Ok, the passenger low beam...
A winter or two ago, I replaced all of the belts on my M813. It was very cold so the belts were stiff and probably contracted a bit. Now they've stretched out a bit and the slack should be taken up.
My concern is the water pump belt. If I loosen the pump to take up the slack, what are the...
Question:
If I were crazy enough to attempt to replace an inner tube and tire and inflate it without a cage, using chains, what is the best way to secure the ends of the chain? A padlock? Grade 8 nut and bolt? I have a way to inflate the tire remotely. I have a locking air chuck and I can...
Hey all,
I want to inspect the rear and intermediate brakes for leaks and check the pad wear. I haven't done it since I've owned the truck. (I did service the steering axle)
I'm reading the -20 TM. I've ordered the little cork gaskets (but I'm also amenable to using a modern sealant).

Gents,
I'm still hunting for troop seats for a base model (fixed side bed) M813. I've had many conversations with people who claim that there's no difference between the seats for the M809 and the M939 series. I've figured out what the difference is:
On the base, fixed side truck there is NO...
