200A shipping damage, how bad is it?

Trying to swap my 400 to a 200 and got the new one in with some shipping damage. It had worn all the way through the packing materials and box and looks like it got thrown around a bit. The shroud is bent but not interfering with the fan. Also had the idea to just swap it with the shroud on my...

    Burning out directional flasher module?

I had a similar problem with flasher blowing up except it happened immediately for me. Turned out to be the front left turn signal wire shorting on the alternator, which put a huge current draw through the flasher and killed it. Doesn't sound like what yours is but probably worth disconnecting...

M1114 mystery cut cables and wiring questions

Never did find a definitive answer, but my guess is that it might be a relay/power switch type thing for the turret that goes to the ignition switch so that it isn't powered up when the truck is off. That's how the windshield de icer works. In any case I haven't had any problems with it.

See if you can get it into the diagnostic mode. If it does you might find out what's causing the light, and if it doesn't then you almost certainly have a TCM problem. Here's a helpful guide to troubleshooting the TCM if you don't have it already.

That's probably what it is. I read the older posts again and it looks like the light isn't on when it's running, which means it isn't what I had. The only thing that made me think of my issue was the dim light, but that could just be a dirty lens or something.

That trans light behavior is the exact problem I had (along with trans in limp mode). It stayed on whenever the battery was connected but was super dim. Turned out to be a blown up capacitor or something in the TCM. It sounds like your transmission works though, so it might be something else.

    GM truck TCMs in HMMWVs

Found the issue. I put it in diagnostic mode before I ran the engine the first time, but I ran it for a while and tried again and got it to work properly and give me a code.

    Yes, on while running too.

    GM truck TCMs in HMMWVs

Finally got around to putting in the new TCM and it seems to work. Didn't immediately blow up, so probably means the last one failed on its own. Trans light stays on when run switch is on and it will go into diagnostic mode, but it only flashes 12 over and over again. Troubleshooting guide does...

Analysis of Transmission Troubleshooting Results Help

Don't know anything about the transmission side, but I had mine with a TCM light stuck on all the time. Does it come on only when the start switch is on run, or is it on all the time the batteries are connected? Mine was on all the time at about half brightness and turned out to be a blown...

    Serpentine belt tensioner question

Got a bigger ratchet strap with more leverage and it worked well (y)

    Serpentine belt tensioner question

I was able to use a ratchet strap to de tension the belt, take off the broken tensioner and replace it with a new one. Getting the belt back on with the ratchet strap was much harder, I just barely got enough slack in the belt to slip it back on and tore up part of the ratchet strap doing it...

    Serpentine belt tensioner question

I was beginning the process of alternator removal today for a few different things, but before I could even get started on that I got stuck with my belt tensioner. It's supposed to have a 3/8ths hole to use a socket/breaker bar on, but mine looks like this. The edges of the hole are rounded...

    Turn Signal Problems

I don't have the resources now to replace it so I'm just going to try to make it work for now. I'm going to be pulling the alternator out so I can get to the harness to repair it. Are there any common ways of mitigating the abrasion issue? Moving the harness out of the way seems difficult since...

Anyone ever open and repair a TCM?

I had a problem with mine and opened it up. Mine had a burnt up capacitor on it. I was originally thinking about repairing it (especially when I thought a new TCM was $800) but there were no markings on the capacitor to indicate what part I should look for to replace it with, so I just got a new...

    Turn Signal Problems

Rubbing against the wires, or being sort of sideways?

    Turn Signal Problems

Another update. Thought I had all my issues fixed so I got a new flasher unit and connected it. As soon as I turned on the left turn signal the flasher made a loud pop and some nice smoke. Did more testing and eventually found a short in the harness between the turn signal switch output for the...

    Upper vs lower driver's mirror

It was a mirror kit from Eastern Surplus. I think it was one of the modification kits the army used to upgrade from the early style single point mirrors to the current ones. P/N 57K3214. My arm was a little far forward, but adjusting it back didn't really change the view. Here's a couple...

    Upper vs lower driver's mirror

I installed both of my mirrors, with the driver's side in the lower position. I do like the front left visibility that it gives you and I'd like to keep it there, but it has an angle problem. This is my view with it adjusted all the way up. The bin is about 8 feet behind the end of the truck...

    GM truck TCMs in HMMWVs

I checked all the connections again, and wanted to post some of the ones I'm not sure about with higher voltages to see if they seem correct. These are readings at the TCM connector (no TCM installed) with the truck on. D, Shift Solenoid B: 14v E, Shift Solenoid A: 14v U, Check Trans Lamp: 12v...
