Hey all, it's me again... I've spent the last week's free time working down the issues list and I ended up stuck on my starter, then skipped to the transfer case but thats a different story.
Back to the starter, it died last august and I had it replaced with one of those smaller ones...
Fixed.
A hidden part of my battery positive wire coming off the alternator was broken it ran and charged after I fixed it.

At the risk of revealing my propensity to ask stupid questions would that alternator test mean the sticky post or something different using the test plug?
Also would there be any reason to disconnect the alternator and haul it in to the Napa. I was talking to the guy who runs the shop...
Thanks for the reply and the encouragement, it certainly has its quirks but it’s been a great truck to learn on and my friends and I have had a blast bouncing over old 1940s era highways: )
