Sorry, I don’t have a M105A2 in my green herd. The M101A2 and M116A2 dimensions are from trailers I can walk out and measure. The PDF is for fender extensions on the M101A2 tub due to the wider M116A3 axle/wheels (Hummer related).
If I can get access to a 105, I’ll measure the fenders on it...
M 101A2 bed - cargo
18" floor to top of bed rail
7 1/8" top of fender to top of bed rail
15 1/2" total fender height
23 3/4" horizontal part of fender (top)
14 3/4" front and back fender slants
-60 degrees downward angle from fender top (from horizontal) - front and rear
M116A2 bed - generator...
Good idea on moving the fenders. My A2 already had the inner fenders cut, so I couldn't move them.
Also, the shop I used to make the outer extensions has gone out of business. You can print the plans and shop them locally.
If this doesn't work as a link, copy and paste it in a Steel Soldiers browser window. I had the same problem with my M-101A2-3. This is what I came up with.
Edit: These plans are for the CUCV rims and wheels, not the wider HMMWV set up...
It looks like I'm going to have to replace the springs on my M101A3. I had them re-arched last year, but now the right side is fading. It sits about 1 1/2" lower than the left.
The springs are 6 leaf, 45 1/2" eye to eye, and 2" wide. Does anyone have any ideas on replacements - civvy truck...
If you get the hinges, e-mail Kipman to see if he still has sets of 101 gates. I added a pair to the front of my trailer and it makes my life much easier. You can easily haul 10-18 ft stuff like re-bar over the trailer tub. Opening up the front end also lowers the drag when towing.
My...
Bow Pockets to Top Rail
I drilled the bow pocket hole out to 11/32" so the Tee nuts would sit flush in the pockets
I cut all of the prongs off of the Tee nuts (8 per side)
I cut the all thread to approx 5/8" lengths (8 pieces) - Use a vice for better control!
- I cut a slit through the entire...
I may have located a source for M101A3 NOS (more than 5 years old) shocks and bushings. The seller wants about $5 per bushing (4 per side) and $47 per shock. And tax. UPS shipped out of Minnesota from a government contractor.
Do you think this is worth pursuing? What the shelf life of a shock?
I scored a complete set of fiberglass racks for my M101A3 over July 4th down in El Paso, TX. The donor trailer was GL out of Fort Bliss -- already in private hands. The seller has a heavy machinery business and had several Army cranes, a few M101A2s and M105s, and a M1102 scattered through his...
M101A3 Side Mount
I used the right rear corner of the bed on my 101A3 -- extra reinforcement for lifting and on the passenger's side of the trailer. I added a 1/8" piece of steel sheet inside the bed and outside the bed between the uprights. I bolted all of this together (no welding stuff --...
Bearing Packing Setup
I went shopping for bearing packing/replacement stuff for the trailers. I picked up:
HF Bearing Race and Seal Installation Kit for $32
Lisle Handy Packer for 3 1/2" Bearings for $24
3/16" x 2" cotter pins for $2
Mobil 1 sythetic grease already in the garage
1 1/2" socket...
Craig -
I pulled this from the Technical Manual PDF. It looks like there are (2) cables that will fit the M101A3 / M116A3.
However, I just went out and measured the cables on my trailers and found the 74 inch cable is to better accomodate
the extra height of drop axle on the A3s. There had...
