Just a few pics of the ole 1009 after driving around during a Sunday Snow Storm we had here in Iowa Last winter. I may not like working outdoors in the snow any more but it was sure fun to blast some drifts with this old blazer. She just plows, plows, and then plows some more :D
It could be done but you would be better off with a 81 or newer 3/4 set up, spring perches, transfer cases ect... That 1972 stuff is a little different. A 72 3/4 would be worth more as a collector truck then a chopped up 2 wheel drive.
That's what I was thinking. Once I pull out on the shaft it shifts fine and solidly into each gear. Least it sounds like it does anyway. thinking maybe the rebuilder messed something up.
Well I finally got around to getting the turbo 400 rebuilt for my 1009. I got it all put back together today and It will not shift out of park. The shift leaver or fork that comes out of the transmission is tight against the transmission and will not move. I can pull it out away from the...
Did the spin on fuel filter mod today. Very little drama and took less then an hour once I had all the parts rounded up that I needed. Cost was under 100 bucks. I went with the Napa base and filter, part number 4309 I think. Had to drill out the mounting holes a bit and used a couple of...
Hey 86k5 nice looking 1009 in your avatar. Mine was making the death grind and was shaking/twitching at all speeds, then just stopped working. There were two listed at the orielly's. Both for a 1984 6.2 K5. They had none for the 86, but since parts wise these are 84's I went with the shorter...
Don't know why a boom truck would have a problem towing a cucv unless they sent a ford J/K. We have a 80 chevy 1 ton 4x4 with a boom that we towed 1 tons all the time. Just pull the drive shaft and go.
Growing up we had a 1984 civi 1 ton crew cab 4x4 with a j code 6.2, 4spd, and 456 gears. That was a sweet truck, did not have the power of our built 454 but did get 17 mpg on longer trips 60-65 mph was pushing it pretty good. We pulled a 5 th wheel trailer with 10,000# + pounds of scrap on a...
Thanks guys, It has been fun to drive around so far, and the MPG has my old 76 chevy 3/4 4x4 beat all to heck. I have been around older chevy's all my life and the parents still run a little salvage yard on the side so I have plenty of civilian parts around for it. Don't have much experience...
For right now it's just gonna be a driver. I have done the Doghead mod, and will be doing the glowplug relay, and spin on fuel filter mod as well. If I decide I really like it I do have access to a 700r4 and 373 gears. needs some rust repair and a a paint job as well. The dang old thing...
Hi guys, Well I finally took the plunge and picked up my first CUCV. She is a 1986 M1009. Dash says 25,000 miles but looks to have been out so its hard to say. The thing runs and drives great. I drove it home about a 4 hour trip without a hiccup. The old 6.2 does not even smoke, not even on...
