That's a pretty cool looking dash you got there Brett!!

I looked into the vinyl overlay, but to get a good product, I'd end up spending as much on a commercial pad. Besides, I wanted something that I could customize easily. I'm not one to tear holes in the vinyl to attach something to the dash if I need to.

After I finish applying the foam, I'll use the same adhesive to stretch some scrap fleece over it to give the fiberglass resin something to adhere to. Then I'll add a sheet of fine-woven fiberglass on top of that, let it dry, sand and paint.

BTW, make sure you have a good quality duct tape, or else you'll end up using most of the roll to hold the foam to the dash; it beats trying to hold it for 10 mins. by yourself while the glue drys!

I started on my dash in what little spare time I have. Here are some pics to start with. I used sleeping pad foam with HI-Temp spray on adhesive.

I used some belt dressing, and applied some LOCK-TITE to the threads of the bolt to make sure it vibrate out. Worked so far...

Thanks for the reminder. Just sticking my head under the hood while a stranger started it was nerve-wrecking enough for me. I don't plan on blowing myself up...but then again, who does?:lol:

While headed to a friend's house, I ended up running out of fuel in the middle of nowhere, in the pitch black of night, and without a working flashlight. Had some diesel in the back, filled the tank, and bled the filter per the TM, but it just wouldn't start. Ended up calling AAA for a tow...

Replaced the old door locks with new ones; lubed the window cranks, reattached the rear view mirror (again!), and sanded down the dash to steel for refab.

Rebuilt the GEN 2 alt. after windshield wipers died during heavy rain on the highway. Stopped at a gas station, opened the hood, and ducked as sparks flew all over the place. Ended up that the plastic washer insulator on (+) post broke, and the bolt was arch welding itself to the housing. 45...

Good to know. Anybody else got any fiberglass tips before I make a mess of this project?

Alright guys, I'm gonna try the fiberglass with resin for the first time. Done a little research and it doesn't sound too difficult (famous last words.) As soon as I find the time, I will take pics of the process and keep y'all informed on the progress.
