    electric fans

I pulled a 3000 pound trailer from Georgia to Maine with my M1009 with a 5 inch lift and 35 inch tires. When the clutch fan engaged I could only achieve 55 MPH, but when the fan disengaged I could achieve 70 MPH. The fan definately robs the needed horse power/ torque, I also see a change in MPG...

M1009 PVC snorkel I hadn't seen it done in PVC so here it is for everyone else

So far so good. The PVC has survived 1 branch hit at 30MPH. I have not noticed any negative probs. I am getting around 15 MPG. Keep in mind that is with drivetrain angles and 35" tires. here is a link where the M1009 passes by the camera on the passengers side.

    starter help

They are not bad to take apart, mine had a piece of dried up dust boot and rust from keeping the solenoid from engaging all the time. I have not had a prob since I cleaned and greased its bearings and solenoid sleeve.

Mirrors removed from windshields in M1009s...

I glued my mirror back on twice, the 2nd time I opted for the more expensive kit that came with a piece of sandcloth. I think scratching up the surface area was key. But its only been 4 months now.

    M1009 Brake question

My M1009 does the same thing, rear brakes grab hard and will easily lock up, but only in the morning, for the first two or three times I hit the brake pedal. It has been years since I have owned a vehicle with drum rear brakes. I seem to remember this same problem with cold damp drum brakes on a...

    hole in fuel tank

There is a product used on home heating oil tanks called magne-patch or something like that, uses a magnet to squeeze a piece of foam against the steel tank. (temporary fix) I've fixed leaky piping on the bottom of heating oil tanks by using a shop vac on the fill pipe to pull the tank into a...

    Need some help.

I recently purchased the rear window crank parts from LMC. Currently LMC had a quality control problem due to my complaint, they have no lock cylinder with key's available. they could not give me a replacement, or a date when a new shipment from overseas would arrive. Take the time to take...

M1009 PVC snorkel I hadn't seen it done in PVC so here it is for everyone else

I gave a good hard look at the firewall as a routing option, I just didn't know, and was trying not to obstruct the drivers view,( Illeagal in Maine) I do agree on the cold temperature issue, I don't think I gave it any thought. most of the reason I used PVC was the price and availability, ease...

M1009 PVC snorkel I hadn't seen it done in PVC so here it is for everyone else

the 5/32" hole is needed to rid entering rain water, commercially sold snorkel kits that face foward will have to be able to rid themselves of the same... a piece of tape covers a hole easily. Remember, A snorkel can only reduce your risk of water damage when driving in deep water. Not driving...

M1009 PVC snorkel I hadn't seen it done in PVC so here it is for everyone else

you never know what to expect when wheeling, in the north at least, wheeling environments are not controlled, you do not pay entrance fees, and you never know how deep the water is, I try to build my vehicle capable of all situations I might encounter, and I do encounter. There are no bypass...

M1009 PVC snorkel I hadn't seen it done in PVC so here it is for everyone else

I measured the air pressure at the under hood end of the 4" pvc pipe using a U tube manometer, routed tube through firewall grommet: at idle -.2"WC under acceleration at 15 MPH -.6"WC at 55 MPH +1.6"WC (14"WC(Water Column) = 1/2 PSI)

M1009 PVC snorkel I hadn't seen it done in PVC so here it is for everyone else

I have good intentions, really, but I've got to be more careful with these Napa parts. this truck is far from a beauty queen , this is why I have a relaxed approach towards keeping it original. but please understand if it was a straight rust free truck, in good condition, then I could see...

M1009 PVC snorkel I hadn't seen it done in PVC so here it is for everyone else

If you look carefully under the hood you can see a piece of perforated steel in between battery hold down brackets, there is a bolt through the steel into 4" pvc, I used loctite to hold nut from loosening. there is one other bolt if you click on my profile I explained in a photo album. the hole...

M1009 PVC snorkel I hadn't seen it done in PVC so here it is for everyone else

Although many posts did not recommend PVC, I couldn't help but wonder what it would look like. using a material that doesn't rust or corrode seemed like a plus to me, only downfall I suppose is the visible seams in the pipe to fitting connections. A small hole has been drilled in the bottom of...

How does your Voltmeter read under load?

I recently replaced my volt gauge with one purchased on e-bay. New gauge has numbers. NEW Stewart-Warner Model 82347 2-1/16" 24V Voltmeter I see about 24-25v with engine running high idle, glow plugs energized, when glo plugs cycle off volts go to 27. then 27 volts with engine warm at idle...
