    HEMTT wheel nuts

I haven’t taken any of my wheels apart yet, but I thought those were distorted-thread lock nuts? Not supposed to be reused. I hadn’t thought of just getting them from a bolt shop... I had only searched by the NSN. Seems like something McMaster-Carr would have. Jon

need hemtt Detroit Diesel 8v92ta mechanic near Sacramento

Hey Mike! Wow, you're really digging deep into that Detroit! I've been away from here, got busy on other projects, and then my wife was in the hospital since November so I was a bit occupied, but I did see your PM that you got a new HEMTT... Awesome! Instead of a spin-on oil filter adapter...

I need a good source for dash screws & other fasteners

Interesting, I hadn't even noticed the brown color under the data plates... My brain saw the picture as having the data plates in their proper places. That brown almost looks like the darker brown from desert camo... The correct Vietnam-era olive drab is much greener in vintage pics as well as...

I need a good source for dash screws & other fasteners

That's Gillespie 24087 semi-gloss olive drab. I'm not a big fan of it, it's too brown, though it has faded to a nicer more green color since that picture was taken. Your dash looks like 383 green CARC to me...

I need a good source for dash screws & other fasteners

The black oxide does look good! Here's a picture of the mil-spec style cad plated ones...

    Info needed with Turn signals

I had this same problem, and it turned out to be a bad connection at the terminal block in the engine compartment, near the steering column.

I need a good source for dash screws & other fasteners

Those are just standard Mil Spec 8-32 pan head Phillips screws... Yours are rusty and/or painted over, but when they were new they were yellow cadmium plated. McMaster-Carr has them. https://www.mcmaster.com/ From the home page above, select: screws & bolts -> rounded head screws -> Phillips...

    Gasser Deuce pics and videos?

There's a couple videos of my V18A/MTQ pole setting truck (it's a gasser on an M34 chassis) on this page: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?8367-1952-Studebaker-V18A-MTQ/page10

Steel Soldiers MV of the YEAR 2017 - VOTE HERE!

I must have missed something... Why are there only 11 contenders for MV of the Year instead of 12?

Engine replacement for MAN KAT 6x6

What issues is the engine having? Is it just worn out? Those air-cooled MAN engines have been around for a long time and are known to be reliable. Unless it's a desert climate overheating issue, if it were mine I would replace it with an identical new engine. Jon

Buying a HEMTT across the country

For the ones with no paperwork, I'd call GovPlanet and give them the VIN... They make money on SF-97s, so there's some motivation for them to help if they can.

Buying a HEMTT across the country

I drove mine across the country... Here's my recovery thread which has a lot of information: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?146278-1-680-mile-HEMTT-recovery Shipping quotes were indeed very expensive, and that was a strong motivating factor in my decision to drive it back, but I...

    Idaho title change!!!!!

Doesn't GP offer a Florida title for an additional fee above the cost of an SF-97? By that letter, a FL title would be transferable to ID. Also, I'm pretty sure you can go crawling back to GP after passing on their FL title and they'll still sell you one... Mail them back the SF-97 and they'll...

    Are M818 axles lockers?

I had also missed the part about it being only USMC trucks... Mine is Army.

    Are M818 axles lockers?

Huh, I didn't know there were any 5-tons that came from the military with lockers... I have an M818, how do you tell if it has them? Air toggle on the dash or something?

    Are M818 axles lockers?

Nope, M809 series axles are essentially the same, just bigger.

    Newstar hub seals...

I had the key shear off on one... Pissed me off somethin' fierce. I scrapped that seal and used another one and was careful to keep the key pushed the opposite direction as I tightened the nut. At the time I blamed myself, not NewStar, but then I've only ever been able to find NewStar stuff and...

    Couple issues with M920

I'm not real familiar with an M920, but when you refer to a key to open the speedo, I assume the truck has a tachograph? (tachometer, speedometer, odometer, clock, and hour meter all in one) If it's a tachograph key you need, they're all the same and readily available...
