Ok guys need some help with the cucv

Are you pressing the gas pedal after startup to kick it into high idle? Are you letting it warm up and hear it go back to slow idle after a little while? Is the smoke different between high and low idle?

    M1008 horn beeps when turning....

This happened on my K5 one night driving home from church. Everyone thought I was a crazy driver honking at everyone when I turned. I removed the cap and stretched the spring that is wrapped around the wire under the cap. I'm not sure the M1008 has the same setup though.

Ok guys need some help with the cucv

Yeah, mine was pretty tough to move too but eventually did. What did the witness marks look like? Was it retarded?

Ok guys need some help with the cucv

When I first got mine it was smoking a lot. I even had a guy in a convertible BMW pull up next to me and yell at me for smoking him out. You couldn't see the smoke much but you sure could smell it. As soon as I advanced the timing just past the witness mark it ran so much better. It was...

Ok guys need some help with the cucv

Have you checked the timing on your pump? My truck had similar symptoms and I found that the timing was retarded quite a bit. Check the witness marks on the IP and see if they are lined up. I believe if the line on the pump is to the left it is retarded, but check the tech manual to make sure.

    Some crazy fuel problems

Before dropping the tank check the fuel pressure coming out of the filter. Check the TMs for the expected PSI, but I believe it is between 5.5 and 6.5. Also check the return valve on top of the IP and see if is is clogged.

IP timing does this seem too retarded ?

I had changed the filter in April, so it wasn't that old. I honestly think I got a really bad tank of diesel. My gauge is broken so I believed I was really low and went to the closest station instead of my usual one. I won't be going back there!

Cannot Get M1009 Fuel Filter to Purge

Before you yank the fuel pump, check the output pressure from the line going into the filter inlet. Tech Manuals say between 5.5 and 6.5 psi. Page 91 of TM 9-2320-289-20. Page 149 or section 3-10 has fuel pump replacement steps. I had to test mine this weekend, so it is fresh on my mind...

IP timing does this seem too retarded ?

This did the trick. I must have gotten a bad tank. I think advancing the timing to the scribe mark helped with power overall, but changing the fuel filter definitely fixed the problem with power at higher RPM. I feel like an idiot for not checking this sooner. :oops:I will check my receipts...

    Heater core replacement

I replaced mine on a civy K5. There was nothing to do on the engine side except removing the hoses. Tech manual says the same thing. It really wasn't that bad.

IP timing does this seem too retarded ?

LJD - That makes sense. Thanks for your reply!

IP timing does this seem too retarded ?

I will give that a shot. That is certainly cheaper than an IP. I advanced the timing to meet the mark and there wasn't much difference. Overall the truck sounded better, but going up hill was still the same or it had a little more smoke. I had it floored going up a moderate hill and it...

    fuel filter

I believe top right is inlet, bottom right is outlet and bottom left is drain.

IP timing does this seem too retarded ?

Bringing back an old thread to help add more info.. Trying to add some info to this thread instead of starting a new one... My truck has always been sluggish, but since it has gotten cold it has gotten really bad. It also slows from 55 to 40 going up hills and puffs a bunch of white smoke out...

Use jumper wire to temporarily advance timing on DB2 HPCA?

Makes sense. I will give that a shot. Is there any down side to doing it longer term? Say a week of daily driving?

Use jumper wire to temporarily advance timing on DB2 HPCA?

Maybe an hour or so while I make a quick trip. I know I can advance the timing by rotating the DB2, but I thought using the jumper would work for now until I get a new IP. I'm pretty sure mine is shot, but I need to limp my truck to a friends.

CDR valves - Whos got em?

There are two on ebay right now. One is part number: 25042443 which is the original part. It has the bend on the hose connector just like stock. Mine should arrive any day now.

Use jumper wire to temporarily advance timing on DB2 HPCA?

Is there any reason not to use a jumper wire to the HPCA on the DB2 to temporarily advance the timing 6 degrees?

    Diesel Mechanic Around Charlotte

Anyone know of a good diesel mechanic around Charlotte? I'm having fuel system problems and don't have the time to work on it. I've checked all the simple stuff. I have taken it to a friend of mine who is a mechanic, but he doesn't know diesels and doesn't want to waste my time or money. He...
