    New M1010 owner, Central California

Glad to hear that you still have it... hopefully the 700R4 transmission upgrade worked out OK. I'll be doing a similar transmission swap on my amateur radio rig, a former Billings, MT Q2 news truck (1985 Chevy Suburban 2500) with 30 foot pneumatic mast in the middle of it. 350 V8 with TH350...

    New M1010 owner, Central California

Just talked to the guy that bought my M1010, he had a moment of doubt and had listed it up on Craigslist, but didn't get any interest after a few days and decided to pull the ad. He still has it and plans to build an expedition camper, he's following the "Mountain Turtle" build with interest...

    New M1010 owner, Central California

I never did get around to completing it, and found a good deal on a newer RV, so I sold the M1010 in June. Less than a week later, the new owner listed it on Craigslist, but I'm not sure if he sold it or not. The posting expired, it wasn't removed by the owner. He did buy the VW Westfalia...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I installed the LMC headlight harness on Sunday morning, took about 10 minutes since I already had the batteries out to swap with my 1994 Ram 3500 Cummins (put the red tops in the pickup, and the wet batteries in the M1010). I removed the overflow tank to get to the driver's side, the harness...

Where to register M1009; CA or MT

Montana offers permanent registration (if it's over 10 years old), pay it once and you're done. About $150 to $200 if I remember correctly... that's from my Dad licensing his 1977 Dodge W150 in Montana. CA renewal for my M1010 (licensed as a passenger vehicle, not as a commercial truck) is...

24v battery, thought this was cool

That's a group 24 Deep Cycle (24DC) 12 volt marine battery. Not 24VDC (volts D.C.). Group 24 has to do with the size / shape and capacity of the battery, not the voltage.

CUCV Truck requiring a Particulate Filter?

I'm pretty sure the 2023 date is for medium duty and heavier commercial trucks (over 14,000 GVW). Light duty trucks are covered under a different statute. This will likely impact 2 1/2 ton and heavier military vehicles, but not the CUCV. For the heavier trucks, there is still historical...

    CUCV fan belts for m1010

I have info for two of the belts, they should be able to look it up: Top alternator belt, 42-6919, .5 width, 59 inches outside length. V192MP? Bottom alternator belt, 42-6921, .650 width, 51.250 inches outside length,

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

We tried the pepper spray anti-chew stuff with my roommate's Border Collie / Aussie Shepard mix, the dog still ate through the fence. We then found out we could feed the dog as many jalapenos as he'd eat... other than really bad gas, no side effect. That dog liked the hot stuff.... So, I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

My dad had a dog that did that, chewed his rear lights out on a '74 Dodge W100 short narrow box multiple times. The dog only stopped chewing on wire when he chewed through a plugged in zip-cord type extension cord (the one with three outlets in the molded on end). Left scorch marks on both...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I'm pretty sure it's a Dodge radiator overflow tank, from a Dodge CUCV. Notice the pentastar logo on the radiator....

Just picked up my first M1010!

The horn on my M1010 doesn't work either (former Search and Rescue rig), they use the horn to switch tones on the siren. I just need to find where they cut the wiring and put her back together. :) Good looking rig, at least they didn't butcher the paint trying to remove the law enforcement...

    Dana 44 swap, M1010

True, but their curb weight was 6116 pounds (m1010 is 1200 pounds heavier), with a GVW of 7716 , and most weight was expected to be added in the back, carrying stretchers. Oddly, payload was listed as 1200 pounds, but the GVW is 1600 pounds higher than the curb weight. Fuel, operator or tongue...

    Dana 44 swap, M1010

Glad I could help, Google helped me put it together. I was curious myself, though as I've mentioned, I've already done a 700r4 swap(with matching NP208 ) on my m1010 and love it! Much quieter cruising down the road now, I'm running 235/86R16 tires on mine.

    Dana 44 swap, M1010

On my Jeep Wrangler (2003 Rubicon), the largest tire I would run on the upgraded Dana 44 axle (alloy USA axle shafts) would be a 37 inch, and that's in a Jeep that weighs 3000 pounds less than the M1010. And to do that (I run 35s now with 4.88 gears), I'd upgrade the brakes using the Vanco kit...

    Dana 44 swap, M1010

Why not get a 700r4 instead, lower first gear and you'd have overdrive, keeping the stock 4.56 ratio and the stock axles? It would turn the 37's better than the 4.10 would at low speed. The 700r4 with NP208 behind it will fit nicely, they were able to re-use my stock drive shafts without...

    Buying a TH700R4 core for a CUCV

I was lucky enough to find a complete 6.2 engine / 700r4 / NP208 combo for sale, out of a civvy pickup that was re-powered (with a 454). The engine was bad (cracked head), but everything else was good. If I remember correctly, it was in the engines / transmissions / transfer cases section of...

    Gear vendor vs. 700r4

True, I didn't expect it to do 75 MPH in 3rd. :) But I didn't have to kick it down to maintain 60 or 65, it was able to maintain speed OK.

    Gear vendor vs. 700r4

No issues at all on flat terrain, I haven't had it on many hills yet other than freeway overpasses, and it was able to maintain 75 MPH over them without having to kick it down to 3rd. The kickdown works great to pass as well.

    M1010 Receiver Hitch

My M1010 has the same style hitch as Natem's, looks like it was a pretty common modification.
