Block Heater question for a LMTV

Good write up and info. I don't know about this particular motor or heater but generally speaking, in really cold weather you want to make sure you unplug your heater before you start your truck so you don't circulate extremely cold water instantly onto the hot element. Depending on how long you...

    M923A2 Doing 80 MPH!!

Peter- I respect greatly that you want to do it safely and I applaud that. I don't have any idea what your experience level with big trucks is but what I can tell you is that tires and the safety issues related to them are only one aspect of risks related to speed. I would just encourage you (no...

    M923A2 Doing 80 MPH!!

I'm not sure who's pucker factor was higher, mine or the young lady in the little Honda that was beside that tire when it let go. Fortunately the gator (tread) stayed in one piece and hung on the axle. The rest looked like it became about the size of ping pong balls. Didn't do any damage to...

    M923A2 Doing 80 MPH!!

98G - I did in post #89 but here it is again to remind folk. here is my experience with exceeding the rated speed. I didn't have my glasses on when I picked this truck up. I should have paid more attention to the rated speed because after 3 hrs doing about 62, the front left steer tire exploded...

    M923A2 Doing 80 MPH!!

I just hope the OP stays safe. I think we all have had a learning curve. I learned my lesson the hard way and I was fortunate no one was hurt.

    M923A2 Doing 80 MPH!!

You all do what you want, here is my experience with exceeding the rated speed. I didn't have my glasses on when I picked this truck up. I should have paid more attention to the rated speed because after 3 hrs doing about 62, the front left steer tire exploded in rush hour traffic while I was...

Extremely Negative Experience - Jared at Ft Carson CO

Backing off GL I never did bid often, so navigating the system was a new trip every time. But I agree with you completely, I won't be bidding on GL anymore either. Hope the OP gets the problems worked out....

Welcome Andrew, nice looking truck, I wish I had gotten into the hobby at your age.

    6.5 IP in a M1008

A db2 and a db4 are a lot different. The db4 uses a FSD (Black box) on the side of the pump. It will also require the appropriate "Computer" mgt system. IF you have the db4 I would scrap it and get a db2. The 4 is a real pain (at least mine were) and the 2 is a great pump.

Upcoming road trip: Ft. Riley, KS to Florida Keys

Unless things have changed, they won't give you a jump start but they do have a list of wrecker companies that will come out and do that. If I recall, it's about $100, but that may not be correct, it's been a while. I averaged 5.8 mpg on my 925 from Riley to KC. Good luck and keep us posted.

    TBM-3E Avenger

My uncle was a gunner on a TBM. Served during the Solomon islands stuff. Was wounded twice and was on one (maybe two) carriers that went down. When he was in his 90's he finally shared some of the stories with me. Even in his 80's he was one heck of a shot! Thanks for the pics, I hadn't thought...

    M925 Winch not working

Well, didn't work to engage while creeping forward, think he is going to have to open the PTO case and check out that shear pin. Thanks guys for the help.

    M925 Winch not working

Sounds like the problem is inside the PTO. We did take the cable off and moved the pto lever by hand. It moves freely. I like the shear pin idea, that would explain why it moves easily with no apparent change in the operation of the pto. Guess he needs to take that off and see what is going on...

    M925 Winch not working

Good questions! Thanks for the prompt response. Yes the tank level is good and the cable wasn't working well so we took it off and moved the lever by and (through the access door in the cab.) It moves freely but doesn't seem to make a difference which position it is in, the pto shaft doesn't move.

    M925 Winch not working

Gentlemen. I recently sold my 925 to a neighbor that is a good friend (so I could keep visitation rights!) He is a bit younger and will be able to keep it in great shape. In fact he has tackled the winch which I never got to. I knew it didn't work but I never worked on it. He has the TM's but he...

    Bigger or dual fuel tanks...

Lots of ways to do it. If possible I would mount them same height and run a good crossover tube at the bottom so they stay equalized. Then your gauge stays accurate with no modifications.

    Bigger or dual fuel tanks...

Most Class 8 trucks use dual tanks with a crossover line between them to help keep them equalized. Fuel to the engine is pulled from the closest tank. Just make sure they are level with one another and you might want to install a second fuel gauge. I would think it would be pretty straight...
