The gear oil I'm using, from Wally World, says "protects against corrosion of copper and bronze bushings". It's GL5 rated. And I always thought you use non detergent for engines with no oil filter and detergent for engines with an oil filter. The detergent keeps the dirt
suspended so it can go...
Per the manual the front and center diff's take 6.5 qts but the rear only 5.5 qts. The center and rear axle look the same. Is it a misprint or does the rear axle take less oil?
I'm getting ready to change the engine and diff oil in my DUKW. The book calls for straight 30 in the engine and 90 weight in the diffs. Any harm or is it a good thing to use 15/40 engine oil and 85/140 in the differentials?
My transfer case is leaking a bit. The seal number in the book is GM-3659542 and the complete transfer case seal and gasket kit is GM-2151667. I've found these at one of the MV dealers but would like to get them locally if possible. Does anyone have a cross or know if these numbers will work...
I've been in Buena Vista for 10 days. Went to Leadville for 2 days and had a great time there. Saw that pass to the east but after Independence decided not to, literally, go there. Made it to the Great Sand Dunes Park way south of here and to Gunnison thru Monarch Pass on Saturday. Went back...
I've made it thru Cottonwood pass and Monarch pass since Tuesday, in my little rental car. At Cottonwood hiked up to the summit, maybe 12.8K feet?... The A3 came up the west side and decended the east. I talked to others at the top, heard how bad the west side was, and decided not to venture...
I type this from a Public Library in Salida Colorado. Went up to Independence Pass Tuesday. The drive was terrifying for a flatlander with steep dropoffs and no guard rails. The pass is over 12,000 ft. Had a "pleasant" time at the top, no one had any O2 to spare. Why do I mention this on...
I ended up timing it by ear. I set the idle mixture screw until I had max vacuum, I think it was 20-21, well in the green zone. I turned the distributor until I got max rpm, then backed it off a bit. I was able to get the rpm's to go from 600 to 750 just by turning the distributor, without...
I'll give Gulfway a call tomorrow but had tried to insure this with them when I got it and can't remember why but they wouldn't take it. They had insured all my M series vehicles before I got this.
Hagerty sent me a notice they will not be renewing my DUKW insurance as it is not stored in a fully enclosed building. They said all military vehicles in FL have to be stored in a fully enclosed building. Who else can I get insurance thru? They are renewing my marine insurance, they said it...
I'm trying to time my 270 in the DUKW. The TM9-802, pg. 201 #C, says to lower the rpm to 350 so the centrifugal advance hasn't kicked in, and align the ball on the flywheel with the needle. The ball is set at 5 BTDC. The power plant manual TM9-1802A, pg. 238 section 130/B/5, says to have the...
Zout thanks for the info. Is that measured from the top of the arm or the bottom? I've got a set of legs that came off a non deuce vehicle. Two are 49" to the bottom of the arm, 54 1/2" to the top. The third is 57" to the bottom, 62 to the top. I'm trying to make sure they will work on a...
Can anyone tell me which adapter plate, in the pics in post 5/17, is correct for a WWII application with the M36 ring? I got a set of the cast 1944 dated arms for my DUKW and now need the correct plate. Thanks For any help as I resurrect this old thread.
My DUKW came from the field to the right of the drive 2 years ago. I crawled all thru this one. Other then the hull issues it looks very complete. First pic is DUKW in this thread. Second two are my DUKW as it sat.
I can't tell you specifically about PA but can tell you however you go about it to just register it as a TRUCK first. Don't say anything about boat etc. Just tell them it is a 194? GM TRUCK. When that is done, then you will have to register it as a boat, I don't think there is any state that...
