The unit does not make any noise in the turns. Fluid levels are good.
Here is what transpired today. I took the truck out for a test drive. At start-up, I heard the fan belt squeal like a stuck pig when I rev'd up the motor. I let the motor rev down and then ran it up again. No squeal. I then...
Just getting to work on my first CUCV and as providence would have it I have my first issue to work through. Driving home last night, I noticed that I had intermittent power steering and my brake pedal felt very mushy. When I say intermitent, it felt like I was man-handling the truck through...
Thank you Blendmaster. I always have my eye on the door of this state, but for the time being, I need to get this straight before I drop some money on a truck like this. Since you are from CA, that helps with a newbie like me. Thanks to everyone for their input.
Last questions: How much does an M1009 weigh?
And from what I am taking on the forum, I should not worry about the last minute Particulate Filter Issue?
Thanks for the inputs guys.
Here is the link. It actually states:
2023
California has passed emissions laws that will, by 2023, prohibit the use of any vehicles that are more than 13-years-old--unless they have equipment to cut nitrogen oxide emissions.

According to their own regs, the CA DMV, from what I have read, states that only School Buses and commercial vehicles get the joy of putting the Diesel Particulate Filter on their vehicles. I assume CUCVs are exempt (unless I missed something)?
In addition, I saw a lesser know little provision...
I wanted to share a story that occurred today. I went down to LA to purchase an M1008 that was lifted and slightly modified for off-roading. Not a big deal, although the real reason I was interested in this vehicle was that the owner stated that the transmission, transfer case, shafts, and...
Question for you guys. Does the M1008 run continuously in 4-Wheel drive, or do you have to lock the rear wheels to engage the system. I know that newer trucks have the shifter within the cab to convert from 2 to 4 wheel drive. How is this done on the CUCV?
Thanks,
Steve
I am looking to purchase an M1008 with stock transmission. The owner is claiming that the Odometer is 47K. How can I verify that it is truly not 147K.
Thanks,
Steve
BTW, fuel went to $5.00 a gallon in some parts of SoCal today. Looks like I might be taking this truck to another state in about a year, maybe sooner. Different times in California.
I agree that the regulation is somewhat vague. I do believe that when the full weight of this disaster hits home and prices skyrocket from truck drivers passing the cost along to the customer, people will be a might upset. The state will see "its revenues" are not what was expected in a couple...
Thanks for the great information guys? Marcus, to answer your question, I came out of Active Duty from Edwards, and now I am with the 452 ALCF (TALCE) at March ARB.
First of all, glad to see so many of you out there. It is good to know one has compadres. Being new to the site, I plan to be here a lot.
In any case, I moved to CA two years ago on Military orders, and I am trying to purchase my first CUCV M1008 or M1009 in a month or so. Looking to spend no...
