    HMMWV...Lost interest

This has been a great hobby for me and I have really enjoyed this forum. Time has come for me to sell what I have. H1 may be sold and maybe M998,which I spent 2 years restoring. It was from the first Marine auction. Will advertise it and the many spare parts I have on the forum. The wheels weigh...

    Painting a M998

I have not been on this forum for a long time so please excuse me if what I post is redundant. I got one of the first auction Marine Corp M998s some years ago. The paint was faded but not many gouges or scratches, etc. I wet sanded wearing nitrile gloves, then marked the pattern with chalk...

    Securing a HMMWV

Have not been on this site for a few years...So if what I post is redundant, I apologize. The cut off prevents turning on your glow plugs, lights, cranking the engine. Kids and adults will do all these things and not give it a thought. I think they have been conditioned by the interactive...

    Securing a HMMWV

Still happy with the cut-off I installed a few years ago. Only one hole drilled. Have the same switch in my M151A2.

    Keyed Ignition Switch

A vendor on this site, Those Military Guys, have a good switch. I have installed them on M998 and M151A2.

    Wipers not working

The contacts are spring loaded and mounted in a rubber base so they can get compressed over time and not be making good contact. Also, there is probably some corrosion on them.

    Govplanet Sales Tax

Gov Planet tried to charge me Texas diesel tax on M1008. I got it refunded, I believe, based on weight of vehicle.

    NEED A SOURCE: Vacuum Lines

Years ago when I restored an M38 I bought bending and flaring tools and made them.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Recently met new to the hobby HMMWV owner. I pointed out that they had 3 bias ply and 1 radial on it. I swapped a couple of eight bolt bias plys for the well worn radial. I checked the pressure in their bias plys and all 3 were 47-50 PSI! Lowered the pressure to about 25 PSI. They...

    hummwv glow plug start time

My light stays on longer with latest PCB than the old Prestiolite box. I think at least 10 seconds...

    MUTT paperworks

Did you check the left side of the transmission tunnel for a metal tag just above fuel lines? It may be covered with paint. We needed to look closely for it. It will have some of the information you need.

Upgrading HMMWV With More Civilian Components

The electrical components you mention have all been a source of problems on my H1. The trim around dash just make it harder to work on. I would much rather work on my M998 than on my H1. I agree that value would be lowered because of modifications. Also TMs would be of less help. But it is...

    Looking for a particular jeep.

    Good luck. Keep us informed.

    Negligent Discharge or Creative Ventilation

My early USMC M998 has very crude drain holes in rear floor. They do not look like 5.56, however. There are repair kits available to fix these crude holes which tells me they were fairly common.

    HMMWV doors

Mik: Glad to see you are still on the site. Bob

    Battery Drain

Besides fixing what is wrong this is a good argument for ground cut-off switch.

    Demand for HMMWVs

Watching the news and seeing lots of HMMWVs being used on the east coast by PDs, etc. for rescue. I predict many departments may decide that they need a HMMWV or two just in case. They, of course, get first pick before Gov Planet and will siphon off some of the better vehicles. Just my...

    Welcome from San Antonio!

    Rear seat belt install

Agree. I think of the soft top C pillar as a top bow and nothing else.

    M998 mirror bracket bolt spinning

When installing new fastener put a little anti-seize on the threads. I would rather have to tighten the mirror than install new rivnut. Also some people put some epoxy on the outside of the rivnut when installing.
