There were Chrysler Marine engines and Gray Marine engines. Not the same company. Most of the Gray flatheads did not come with oil filters, except as an option. The Chrysler flatheads did. The optional oil filters were of the bypass type such as made by Fram. Example: Fram F3P.

I've done it. Not that big a job. Dropped the pan and mic'ed the lower main bearings. Sanded the main caps slightly with 600 grit on a granite surface plate. Checked the torque on main and rod caps. Piece of mind.

Usually the rotator style exhaust valve comes with a different and unique style retainer. The exhaust is machined to fit the rotating style retainer. I don't think your new valve will work unless you use it as a non-rotating valve.

I've used Wasp & Hornet killer sprayed in the intake of a 6.5 diesel in a pinch. Worked great.

Believe it or not, Wasp and Hornet killer works also. Used it in an emergency on my GM 6.5.
